EKG Technician

The EKG Technician records and processes electrocardiograms primarily on adult and geriatric inpatients and outpatients as ordered by a physician. Edits and transmits processed EKG reports and evaluates EKG tracings for quality and abnormalities. Prepares and hooks-up patients for Holter/Event monitors. Maintains equipment and supplies.

Responsibilities:

• Prepares patients for Holter/Event monitor hook-up.
• Performs and records electrocardiograms for all patients.
• Edits and transmits processed EKG reports.
• Evaluates EKG tracings for quality and abnormalities.
• Prepares patients for Holter/Event monitoring.
• Maintains associated equipment and supplies.
• Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
• Prepares patients for electrocardiograms.
• Maintains and develops effective working relationships with medical, nursing, and administration staff.
• Evaluates tracings for technical quality and abnormalities. Responsible for data accumulation, physicians' signatures, and EKG processing.
• Edits EKG's at EKG system work stations.
• Correlates printed EKG tracings with EKG billing forms (Epic downtime).
• Distributes daily incoming EKG's to Cardiology fellows and faculty for review.
• Matches and processes manually recorded EKG's.
• Additional clinic duties as necessary.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED
• 6+ months of experience working in a patient care environment or college degree in lieu of six months patient care experience
