Job Summary Location: Methodist Women's Hospital Address: 707 N. 190th Plaza - Elkhorn, NE Looking for experienced ED RNs only. Schedule: Casual/PRN – Nights. The Emergency Department RN is accountable for delivering high‑quality, compassionate care to patients and families in urgent and critical situations. The role provides care for all patient populations—men, women, and children, from birth through adulthood—addressing a wide range of medical needs with skill and urgency. ED nurses are dedicated to ensuring safe, comprehensive, and patient‑centered care during life’s most critical moments. Responsibilities Provide appropriate care specific to the age of the patient, to ensure understanding and comfort level of treatment as outlined in the Population Specific Criteria. Identify opportunities for and give individualized customer service/patient care according to patient needs. Perform initial and ongoing assessment to determine the assigned patient's ongoing nursing care needs. Include data from the patient/significant other(s) in the assessment as appropriate. Prioritize data collection according to patient's immediate needs. Use assessment findings in discharge planning. Develop and individualize the plan of care to address the patient's nursing care needs for optimum outcomes. Collaborate with providers and other clinical disciplines as appropriate. Provide teaching specific to the patient's health care problem. Ensure care plan reflects continuing care needs and/or referrals for discharge or transfer. Implement interventions consistent with the established plan of care in a safe, appropriate manner. Follow nursing protocols and standards of care for the unit. Apply current knowledge in nursing practice based on standards and research literature. Screen all patients for domestic violence. Appropriately screen and implement protocols for all patients diagnosed with sepsis. Evaluate patient care to determine response to interventions for optimal outcome. Monitor outcomes and document patient response to interventions. Evaluate the patient's capabilities and/or limitations related to nursing and medical interventions. Continuously monitor the patient and/or significant others' ability to manage care needs after dismissal. Give a complete verbal or written change‑of‑shift report to the oncoming care provider, including SBAR content. Recognize and address patient and family capabilities and limitations (physical and mental). Perform technical skills competently and independently to assure patient safety. Accountably learn new skills and equipment within specified areas and timeframe. Demonstrate correct and safe technique in the use of equipment according to product information and policy manuals. Follow appropriate procedure for obtaining, returning, cleaning, or disposing of equipment and supplies. Charge accurately for use of supplies and equipment according to policy. Maintain professional behavior, attitude, demeanor, and interactions to achieve organizational mission. Communicate effectively to solve problems at the personal and unit level. Be approachable and professional when working with other health professionals, ancillary staff, patients, and family. Take pride in the unit by actively participating in restocking and maintaining a clean environment. Maintain a professional appearance and work environment. Maintain competence in the area of experience. Participate in meetings and/or committees as needed to assist in decisions affecting area, unit, or organization. Initiate action to correct, prevent, and minimize risks to patient, family, or hospital employees (e.g., falls, needle sticks, patient concerns). Complete appropriate report form for any risk (variance/incident report, patient concern report, maintenance request). Communicate to appropriate personnel regarding unresolved issues. Work within the scope of practice as defined by the State Nurse Practice Act. Observe appropriate precautions when administering hazardous medications or handling excreta from patients who have received hazardous medications. Review, delegate, and evaluate plans for appropriate utilization of staff at all levels of practice. Apply right task, right person, and right communication principles. Be fiscally accountable. Act professionally responsible for human and other resources. Charge accurately for use of supplies and equipment according to policy (repeat item). Complete appropriate meaningful use requirements: Medication reconciliation Selection of correct pharmacy for e‑scribe Discharge vital signs within 15 minutes of dismissal Qualifications Education Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited college of nursing required OR obtained within 5 years from date of hire for nurses with an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN). Successful completion of annual mandatory education requirements. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. Experience Experience required: MWH Emergency Room – 3 years of nursing experience. Experience preferred: MWH Emergency Room – Emergency Department (ED) or Intensive Care Unit (ICU) experience. License and Certifications Required: Current valid Nebraska Registered Nurse (RN) License, valid compact multistate license, or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure. Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire. Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC) required within two years. Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) required within two years. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Preferred: NMH & MWH Emergency: Certified Emergency Nursing (CEN). NMH Emergency: Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN). Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Strong interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate and interact with patients, family members, hospital personnel, and co‑workers. Ability to multi‑task and prioritize work assignments. Ability to learn, retain, and utilize computer skills required for department and hospital information system. Schedule 0700-1900, 1100-2300, 1300-0100 or 1900-0700 Physical Requirements Weight Demands Medium Work – Exerting up to 50 pounds of force.
