At Alpha, academic learning occurs through AI-powered applications. No traditional lectures. No physical textbooks. Half of your workday involves facilitating one-hour life-skills sessions on topics like public speaking, sustained attention, and constructive feedback exchange. The remaining half is spent in individual or small-group settings, analyzing student progress via Coachbot data, and driving each child toward 100% completion of their weekly application-based goals. You will not follow rigid scripts—workshop frameworks are provided as foundations, but top performers customize them and create new modules when needed.

Success in a quarter means every student in your group completes weekly app targets, passes the Test2Pass assessment for all life-skills sessions, and 90%+ report positive relationships with you. Falling short on any of these three metrics means the role's core outcomes are unmet. During year one, you'll internalize the operational model; as you demonstrate your ability to uphold expectations, advancement opportunities open to Lead Guide, where you mentor new hires while continuing direct student work.

What You Will Be Doing

• Facilitating one-hour life-skills sessions for K-8 groups covering public speaking, concentration, feedback culture, and related competencies, customizing the framework and creating additional content when you identify needs
• Conducting daily individual and small-group sessions that drive every student to 100% weekly app completion, leveraging Coachbot analytics, Alpha's motivational structures (campus currency, performance rankings), and your rapport with each child to overcome resistance
• Delivering the Test2Pass (Alpha's competency-based evaluation) for each life skill, then coaching students who fall short until mastery is achieved
• Adjusting your approach across developmental stages, from kindergarteners requiring dynamic energy and physical activity to eighth graders needing candid conversations and firm accountability
• Serving as both the adult who maintains expectations and the adult students choose to confide in; care creates permission to demand more, and demanding more signals your confidence in their potential

What You Won’t Be Doing

• Delivering instruction at a whiteboard; academic content resides in the applications, not with you
• Building curriculum from the ground up; you animate an established framework through presence and narrative skill
• Passively monitoring children on devices; motivation in this context is engaged, individualized, and persistent
• Reducing a weekly target to enable a student to reach it; when a child falls behind, the solution involves supporting the child, not adjusting the goal
• Evaluating assignments, conducting standardized test preparation, or handling parent outreach; Campus Leads manage family-facing responsibilities, and the other tasks are not part of this model

Counselor Key Responsibilities

Guarantee that every student in your K-8 group completes their weekly learning targets, achieves mastery in each life skill, and finishes the year reporting a positive relationship with you.

Basic Requirements

• Available to work on-site at an Alpha campus in Scottsdale (Phoenix), AZ; Oklahoma City, OK; Tulsa, OK; Nashville, TN; Austin, TX; Brownsville, TX; Fort Worth, TX; Houston, TX (Central, South, or The Woodlands); Park City, UT - relocation assistance provided
• Bachelor's degree in any discipline
• Minimum 3 years of direct experience working with K-8 students (classroom instruction, athletic coaching, tutoring, camp counseling, or youth program management)
• A concrete example you can articulate of motivating a K-8 student toward a challenging objective: the objective itself, your actions, and the result
• Comfort with AI managing instructional delivery while you concentrate on motivation and life-skills development
• Regular use of generative AI platforms (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude)
• Authorization to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship (or in Canada for the Toronto location)

Nice-to-have Requirements

• Background in youth sports coaching, debate instruction, camp leadership, theater programs, or extracurricular initiatives where you held direct accountability for motivating children toward defined outcomes
• Demonstrated personal achievement (academic, athletic, or career-based), indicating that maintaining high expectations for others reflects consistent behavior rather than adopted posture
• Narrative ability and command of attention sufficient to engage a room of 12-year-olds for an hour without volume escalation
• Documented success converting disengaged or reluctant students into committed participants

Working with us

This is a full-time (40 hours per week), long-term position. The position is immediately available and requires entering into an independent contractor agreement with Crossover as a Contractor of Record. The compensation level for this role is $50 USD/hour, which equates to $100,000 USD/year assuming 40 hours per week and 50 weeks per year. The payment period is weekly.
