Diesel Technician / Diesel Truck Mechanic

Independent Truck Repair

Job Description

Independent Truck Repair service is seeking a skilled and dependable Diesel Mechanic to join our maintenance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel-powered trucks and fleet vehicles to ensure safety, reliability, and peak performance.

Key Responsibilities

Perform routine maintenance and preventive maintenance (PM) on diesel trucks and fleet vehicles
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, brake, engine, and driveline issues
Repair and replace faulty components including engines, starters, alternators, suspensions, and air brake systems
Conduct DOT inspections and ensure vehicles meet safety and compliance standards
Perform oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks, and tune-ups
Troubleshoot engine performance issues using diagnostic tools and software
Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, and work performed
Respond to roadside breakdowns or emergency repair situations when needed
Keep shop area clean, organized, and compliant with safety regulations
Communicate effectively with service advisors and fleet managers regarding repairs and timelines

Qualifications

2+ years of experience as a diesel mechanic or heavy-duty truck technician preferred
Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and air brake systems
Experience with diagnostic tools and repair software
Ability to read and interpret work orders and technical manuals
Must have own basic tools (specialty tools may be provided depending on shop)
Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred but not required
ASE certifications are a plus
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Ability to lift heavy parts and work in physically demanding conditions

Preferred Skills

Experience working on fleet trucks, trailers, or commercial vehicles
Knowledge of Cummins, Detroit Diesel, or similar engine platforms
Welding or fabrication experience (a plus)
Roadside repair experience

Work Environment

Fast-paced fleet maintenance shop environment
Hands-on mechanical work with diesel trucks and heavy equipment
Occasional outdoor or roadside repair work
Commitment to safety, teamwork, and reliability is essential
