Job Details Job Title: Nurse FLSA Classification: Nonexempt Reports To: Nurse Manager Job Family: Radix Recovery Position Summary Nurses are responsible for the coordination and delivery of quality nursing care in accordance with the rules and regulations of the State, Iowa Board of Nursing, and Radix Recovery. In particular, Detox nurses play a crucial role in the recovery processes for patients undergoing detoxification from substances, providing medical care and emotional support. Depending on qualifications and experience, this position may be filled as Residential Nurse, Detox Nurse, or combined. Responsibilities Facilitates and schedules intakes, discharges, and transfers to Radix Recovery residential or outpatient, or outside agency programs as necessary. Works as part of an interdisciplinary team to gather medical history and manage the intake process. Assesses clients for withdrawal symptoms and administers medications as indicated per Medical Provider orders. Takes and records vital signs, monitors detoxification symptoms using CIWA and COWS, and administers routine and PRN medications as indicated. Answers phone and assists with housekeeping duties as necessary. Implements motivational interviewing and active listening techniques to support clients recovering from drug and alcohol dependence. Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards, measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and recommending adjustments. Follows detox division and nursing division philosophies and standards of care set by the state board of nursing, state nurse practice act, Iowa Administrative Rules, the RN Scope of Practice, and Radix Recovery Policies & Procedures. Supervises, delegates, and assigns care as appropriate to LPNs, techs, and/or CNAs. Provides referrals to outside agencies as indicated. Ensures a safe and clean working environment in compliance with OSHA and Radix Recovery standards. Observes patients and maintains accurate documentation of their responses to treatment in the electronic health record. Provides nursing care, oversees medical interventions, and assists in urgent or emergent situations. Provides emotional support and counseling addressing patients’ fears and concerns throughout the withdrawal and detox process, including education about healthy recovery and addiction-related medical concepts. Provides culturally congruent care that comprehensively considers physiological, psychological, and spiritual aspects of health. Supports documentation for insurance submission, completing admission assessments, plan of care, and supporting insurance phone calls related to client status and medication regimes. Participates in workplace maintenance to keep a clean, organized, and efficient environment for clients and staff. Interacts with clients and colleagues respectfully, maintaining professional boundaries and fostering trust and rapport. Upholds privacy and confidentiality of client information per federal and state laws, reporting any privacy violations to supervisors. Works collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team—including physicians and mental health professionals—to adjust treatment plans based on patient progress. Qualifications Valid Iowa unencumbered nursing license (LPN minimum). Degree from an accredited school of nursing. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities At least 2 years of direct patient/client nursing practice. Knowledge of mental health and/or medical withdrawal and detox services (preferred but will be trained). Strong client engagement and motivational counseling skills. Understanding of withdrawal management, vital sign monitoring, and addiction treatment principles. Knowledge of state and federal regulations, including OSHA, HIPAA, 42 CFR, and Iowa statutes. Proven collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to advocate for patient care. Computer literacy and proficiency in documenting accurately in electronic health records. Excellent interpersonal, customer service, communication, organizational, and time‑management skills. Strong critical thinking, conflict resolution, and decision‑making abilities. Ability to maintain strict confidence and confidentiality as required by HIPAA and related regulations. Ability to function well in fast‑paced, high‑stress environments while maintaining professionalism. Ability to work independently and as a positive, collaborative team member in a diverse, multicultural setting. Other Conditions Maintain valid BLS/First Aid certification. Availability for holiday, evening, night, and weekend work. Authorized to work in the United States.
