City Of Denton Equipment OperatorResponsible for heavy and light equipment operation, maintenance of equipment, and job safety, street sweeping operations and assisting in the maintenance and construction of the City of Denton drainage system.Essential Functions:Under general supervision, proficiently operates one or more types of light to medium sized motorized construction/maintenance equipment (i.e. warehouse/interior forklift, bobcat, backhoe, compressor, riding-compactor, vehicle for running errands, small water truck, small dump truck and utility truck) to excavate, move and/or grade material.Operates larger motorized equipment as neededPerforms various skilled duties using hand and power toolsPerforms pre-inspections and post-inspections of all equipment and trucks before and after use; performs minor maintenance activities and cleaning of equipment, and reports problems to supervisorMay set up street barricades and function as a flagger for traffic controlMay perform duties in a confined space such as a manhole or trenchMay confer with customers regarding service problems and reports information obtained to supervisorMaintains on-call availability for after hour emergenciesReads and understands reference books and manuals and current industry operational practicesMaintain regular and punctual on-site attendanceAdditional Duties:Performs other duties as assignedOperates street sweeper when requiredCompletes daily work order ticketsJob Requirements:High school diploma or GED equivalentThree years' experience in operation and maintenance of light equipment used in the construction, maintenance and repair function operationsProficiency in the operation of back hoe, skid steer loader and dump truckORAny combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the jobCore Competencies:Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writingAbility to form and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customersAbility to load truck with track hoe or track loaderBasic working knowledge of excavation equipment and proceduresPreferences:Bilingual in Spanish and EnglishExperience with underground utilities and installation and repair of storm sewer pipeFour years' experience in construction equipment (street sweeper, backhoe, dump truck, bobcat, etc.)Class A CDL with tanker endorsementExperience with track mounted equipmentConditions of Employment:Must possess a valid Class "A" CDL driver's license with air brake endorsements OR must possess a valid Class C driver license with a good driving record and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL with Tank Vehicle endorsement within six (6) months of employment.Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification checkMust pass a physical examinationMust be able to work overtime when requestedEnvironmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements:Physical Requirements: Overall Strength Demands: The italicized word describes the overall strength demand of the functions performed by the incumbent during a typical workday.Sedentary – lifting no more than 10 poundsLight – lifting no more than 20 pounds; carry up to 10 poundsMedium – lifting no more than 50 pounds, carry up to 25 poundsHeavy – lifting no more than 100 pounds, carry up to 50 poundsVery Heavy – lifting more than 100 pounds, carry more than 50 poundsPhysical Demand Codes: The following describes if the incumbent is expected to exert the following physical demands during a typical workday and the overall frequency.
