Job ResponsibilitiesImplements procedures focused on ensuring and improving the safety and health of workers and their surroundings. These processes play a significant role in achieving and maintaining the overall safety and environmental goals of the organization.Focuses on the relationships between people and their environment; promotes human health and well-being; and fosters healthy and safe communities.Ensure facility safety policies and procedures are in full compliance with corporate, local, state, and federal rules & regulationsServe as ambassador of the Koppers Zero Harm Program both locally and at the corporate levelExperience in developing and implementing safety programs and policiesMaintain requisite files and recordsMentor/coach hourly employees at facility in safe methods and correct procedures for accomplishing daily assigned tasksParticipate in behavioral based observation programCoordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practicesAdminister the Safe Permit to Work programManage company safety policies and OSHA compliance programsEvaluate Health and Safety methods, policies, procedures and programsCoordinate and engage with the site Safety CommitteeExecute safety trainingEstablish and supervise an employee-based safety committee.Manage OSHA compliance programsResearch regulatory requirements, industry standards and best practicesConfidentially handle records and follow policy on information releasePeriodically inspect facility to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where needed and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented.Lead the investigation of accidents and injuriesOrder safety gear and supplies for workplaceStay up to date on state and federal health & safety regulationsConducts emergency drills to gauge site & employee readinessConsult with site managers regarding the implementation of new safety proceduresAddress any workplace-related health issues and accidentsCompile and submit accident reports required by regulatory agenciesOversee the administration of workers' compensation program, including working with the insurance carrier to reduce employee lost timeCoordinate with Corporate Safety & Culture and Engagement in the onboarding process for newly hired employeesConduct contractor safety training and assist in monitoring contractor work at the facility for safety compliancePerforms other duties as assignedCandidate Qualifications/ RequirementsSHE (Safety, Health, and Environment) related degree or;Other college degree with 1-2 years SHE related experience or;>5 years relevant SHE work experience.Hands-on work ethic with the proficiency to put the health and well-being of our employees, environment and community first in an industrial atmosphereComfortable managing/coaching/mentoring at the plant floor levelPrevious work experience in the health and safety field is requiredExcellent organizational skillsComputer proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPointAbility to work in a team environment is a mustStrong leadership, communication, and training skillsAttention to detail and problem-solving abilitiesManagement experience preferredKoppers Inc. and its subsidiaries are equal opportunity employers.
