Analyst II or Analyst I

The CalSTRS Disability and Survivor Benefits Division is seeking motivated individuals to work as an Analyst II or an Analyst I in the Disability Services unit. The Disability and Survivor Benefits (DaSB) Division is responsible for administering two of CalSTRS' core benefits. Disability Services provides benefits to CalSTRS members who, due to a disability, are unable to perform their usual duties. The Survivor Benefits Unit supports our members and their beneficiaries when they need CalSTRS the most, providing financial stability for their loved ones. The Disability Services (DS) Unit has the challenging but rewarding task of assisting members during a time they need us most. We work compassionately with our ill or injured members in a timely manner to process their cases. Our business area is ultimately responsible for reviewing disability applications based on CalSTRS criteria, to determine approval or disapproval for each case. Under direction of the Supervisor I, the Analyst II operating as the Disability Services Senior Analyst independently performs time-sensitive case management for an assigned caseload. As a member of the Disability Services team, the Analyst II engages in the determination of statutory and medical eligibility, payments, and various components of continuing qualifications for disability benefits. The incumbent is responsible for consistently providing a high-level of on-going communication with disability members both verbally and in writing. The Analyst II is responsible for complete analysis of the disability application resulting in a thorough and accurate final written summary recommendation to management. The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:

• Possess critical-thinking skills in analyzing complex information to effectively and efficiently arrive at reasonable conclusions
• Experience interpreting laws or regulations
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Possess strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks within short time frames
• Well-developed caseload management skills
• Desire to provide excellent customer service
• Proficient in computer applications, such as Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
• Ability to work independently and effectively as a team player.

Duties will be adjusted at the Analyst I level.

Every 12 months, based on performance evaluation, employees may receive a 5% salary increase until they reach the maximum salary for the position. In July 2025, the State of California implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025. This program reduces employees' monthly base pay in exchange for paid leave credits. This position is subject to PLP 2025 and will have a monthly base pay reduction of 3% in exchange for 5 hours of leave credits for the duration of the program.
