This role combines compassionate client engagement with disciplined case management, sound judgment, technology proficiency, and meticulous documentation. As a Disaster Case Manager, you will work directly with disaster survivors to assess unmet needs, develop individualized recovery plans, identify available resources, coordinate referrals, and advocate for assistance that supports long-term recovery. You will collaborate with local communities, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, service providers, and other recovery partners to connect survivors with available resources and assistance. Key Responsibilities Conduct outreach to disaster survivors and travel to client locations as needed to assess disaster-related unmet needs. Work collaboratively with individuals and families to establish, advance, and complete individualized disaster recovery plans. Apply sound judgment and critical thinking to evaluate client circumstances, identify barriers to recovery, and determine appropriate next steps. Help survivors navigate complex recovery processes involving multiple agencies, programs, eligibility requirements, and sources of assistance. Provide compassionate, respectful, and client-centered support while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries. Conduct timely follow-up with survivors to facilitate progress toward recovery goals and long-term stability. Advocate on behalf of clients with service providers, benefit programs, community organizations, government agencies, and other recovery partners. Present case information clearly, accurately, and confidentially when seeking resources, services, funding, or other assistance to address verified unmet needs. Proactively identify potential gaps, conflicting information, or barriers to assistance and work collaboratively to develop practical solutions. Research available community, governmental, nonprofit, and other recovery resources that may assist clients in achieving recovery goals. Coordinate referrals and maintain effective communication with organizations and partners involved in the recovery process. Case Documentation and Technology Maintain complete, accurate, timely, and well-organized electronic case files in accordance with applicable program requirements, confidentiality standards, and established procedures. Enter and maintain case information in designated databases, case management systems, and other technology platforms. Use technology confidently to manage caseloads, conduct research, communicate with clients and partners, track recovery activities, and meet reporting requirements. Review documentation critically for completeness, accuracy, consistency, and compliance before submission. Manage multiple cases, deadlines, documentation requirements, and follow-up activities while maintaining exceptional attention to detail. Track case progress and ensure required actions, referrals, documentation, and follow-up activities are completed within established timeframes. Protect confidential and personally identifiable information and comply with applicable privacy, security, and information-handling requirements. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s or master’s degree in social work or a related field. Case management experience; one to two years preferred . Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex information clearly and respectfully. Demonstrated critical-thinking, reasoning, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate information from multiple sources and determine appropriate courses of action. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish trust and rapport with individuals and families who may be experiencing significant stress, uncertainty, or disruption. Strong organizational and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail. High level of technology proficiency and demonstrated ability to learn new software, databases, and digital tools quickly. Ability to maintain accurate documentation and manage multiple cases, priorities, deadlines, and follow-up requirements simultaneously. Ability to exercise sound judgment and work independently while recognizing when collaboration, consultation, or escalation is appropriate. Ability to work effectively in both remote and mobile outreach environments. Ability and willingness to work flexible hours based on client, program, and community needs. Ability to participate in required training, meetings, and program-related activities. Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable personal vehicle for work-related local travel. Ability to successfully complete required Federal and State-level background checks.
