Role The Senior Workplace Design Manager will drive project design solutions that are locally relevant and align with Applied Materials Global Workplace Design Guidelines. Projects include office spaces, light labs, and amenity spaces across North America. The position is based in Santa Clara, CA; Phoenix, AZ; or Austin, TX and reports to the Global Design Director, Global Workplace and Infrastructure. The role is a highly visible individual contributor partnering with cross‑functional teams and business unit leaders, and may involve onsite, remote, or third‑party owner‑representative participation. Travel up to 20% is required. Key Responsibilities Guide project programming, concept, design development, and final design of specified regional projects, ensuring alignment with Global Workplace Design Guidelines and stakeholder needs. Assist in developing project charters, clearly articulating goals, stakeholders, building requirements, design principles, workplace objectives, budgets, schedules, and desired outcomes. Define resources and consultants needed to complete project designs; drive design consultant selection with the Regional PM team. Interpret Global Workplace Design Guidelines and align them with regional needs and culture. Assist with guideline improvement by benchmarking best practices and providing solution‑oriented feedback for revisions. Provide executive‑level presentations on regional design projects, global workplace design trends, and workplace analytics. Support the Design & Planning team with recommendations, analysis, and solutions related to design, FF&E, moves, and signage. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or equivalent experience. 10+ years of experience within an architectural practice and/or design management in a corporation, preferably managing the design process for mid‑to‑large‑scale projects. 5+ years of experience in a project management capacity. Experience in the technology industry or similarly technically complex industry. Experience with a wide range of project types across the entire project lifecycle (Entitlement, Planning, Design, and Construction). Strong presentation skills and ability to effectively influence senior leaders. Passion for challenging the status quo in pursuit of performance improvement. Experience selecting, engaging, and managing design and construction‑related service providers. Experience managing virtual teams. Preferred Experience Experience delivering projects in multiple geographies. Experience managing strategic, large‑scale, and complex projects with a proven track record of delivering impact. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to direct/coach teams and provide feedback. Proficiency with MS Office, Bluebeam, and CAD. Experience with design modeling software, e.g., Revit.
