$30.00–$40.00 per hour, based on experience and skill set
Additional $5.50 per hour for eligible hours worked between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.
Temporary Full-Time | 6–12 Months | Four 10-Hour Shifts
Occasional weekend availability required

SAGE Veterinary Centers in Redwood City is hiring an experienced Registered Veterinary Technician to join our specialty Surgery team. This is a temporary, full-time position lasting approximately six to 12 months, with the potential to transition into a permanent role.

This opportunity is ideal for an RVT with veterinary surgery, anesthesia monitoring, and perioperative nursing experience who wants to work alongside board-certified veterinary surgeons in a collaborative specialty and emergency hospital.

In Your Day-to-Day

• Prepare patients and surgical suites for specialty surgical procedures.
• Induce, monitor, maintain, and recover patients from anesthesia.
• Monitor patient vital signs and promptly communicate changes or concerns.
• Calculate and administer medications, anesthetic drugs, and continuous rate infusions.
• Assist surgeons during procedures while maintaining sterile technique.
• Obtain and process radiographs to support surgical planning and patient care.
• Provide preoperative and postoperative nursing care.
• Monitor patients throughout recovery and administer prescribed medications and treatments.
• Clean, sterilize, and maintain surgical instruments and anesthesia equipment.
• Maintain complete and accurate medical records.
• Review postoperative medications and discharge instructions with pet owners.
• Assist with emergency surgical procedures when needed.
• Collaborate with surgeons, RVTs, veterinary assistants, and specialty teams to support efficient workflow and excellent patient care.

Qualifications

• Current California Registered Veterinary Technician license required.
• Previous veterinary surgery experience required.
• Experience with anesthesia induction, maintenance, monitoring, and recovery.
• Strong understanding of aseptic technique and perioperative patient care.
• Ability to accurately calculate medication dosages and continuous rate infusions.
• Strong patient-monitoring, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to remain calm and attentive in a fast-paced specialty veterinary environment.
• Availability to work four 10-hour shifts with occasional weekend coverage.
