Are you an experienced human services leader who understands that great Medicaid programs are about much more than compliance and paperwork?

The Farmer’s House is looking for a Director of Medicaid Programs to lead and grow high-quality services for more than 70 adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

This is an opportunity for a hands-on, mission-driven leader to oversee a team of approximately 20 Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) and two administrative staff , while ensuring the people we support receive services that are safe, person-centered, meaningful and designed to increase independence.

You won't be sitting behind a desk all day. You'll work alongside staff, individuals, families, guardians, service coordinators and community partners to make sure our programs are doing what they are designed to do—and doing it exceptionally well.

What You'll Lead

The Director oversees Medicaid-funded services that currently include:

• Day Habilitation
• Transportation
• Individual Skill Development (ISD)
• Community Networking
• Individual Supported Living (ISL)

You will provide leadership and oversight for approximately 20 DSPs and two administrative staff serving more than 70 adults with IDD.

What You'll Do

Lead People & Build Teams

• Recruit, hire, train, coach, motivate and evaluate DSPs and program staff.
• Provide strong day-to-day leadership to a diverse team of direct support professionals.
• Develop a collaborative, accountable and high-performing team culture.
• Identify opportunities for staff development, advancement and professional growth.
• Conduct regular staff meetings and professional development activities.
• Ensure appropriate staffing levels and coverage while remaining within budget and regulatory requirements.

Champion Person-Centered Services

• Ensure individuals are supported in achieving the goals identified in their Person-Centered Support Plans (PCSPs).
• Advocate for individual choice, self-expression, independence and meaningful community participation.
• Ensure SMART goals are incorporated into plans and that DSPs understand how to support individuals in achieving those goals.
• Help staff develop meaningful activities and weekly lesson plans designed to build skills and independence.
• Maintain positive, professional relationships with individuals served, families, guardians and support coordinators.

Own Program Quality & Compliance

• Ensure Medicaid programs meet The Farmer’s House standards for quality and best practice.
• Maintain compliance with Medicaid, Missouri Department of Mental Health (DMH), contractual and accreditation requirements.
• Serve as a lead for CARF accreditation and Columbus Group requirements.
• Coordinate and respond to inspections, audits, investigations and satisfaction surveys.
• Analyze findings and develop actionable recommendations for leadership.
• Ensure safety procedures, emergency drills, medication monitoring and required documentation are completed appropriately and on time.

Manage Medicaid Operations

• Oversee service documentation and quality assurance processes.
• Review DSP daily documentation, T-logs and transportation documentation in Therap.
• Monitor monthly service documentation and ensure reports are submitted to service coordinators on time.
• Ensure Medicaid billing is accurate before submission to DMH.
• Oversee individual records and ensure required documentation is maintained.
• Monitor participant applications, intake and onboarding.
• Participate in annual PCSP meetings and ensure plans are completed within required timelines.
• Provide on-call support to individuals and staff as needed.

Collaborate & Lead Strategically

• Serve as a member of The Farmer’s House Executive Team.
• Participate in annual budgeting and financial planning.
• Develop and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Medicaid programs.
• Evaluate program outcomes and stakeholder satisfaction.
• Build strong working relationships with service coordinators, providers and DMH representatives.
• Stay current on changes to Medicaid, DMH and developmental disability requirements.
• Attend relevant DMH, MACDDS and other industry meetings.
• Partner with leadership to implement the agency's strategic plan.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who can combine compassionate leadership with strong operational and regulatory skills.

The ideal candidate:

• Has 5+ years of experience managing Medicaid programs serving people with developmental disabilities.
• Has a bachelor's degree in Human Services, Education or a related field or at least five years of relevant experience.
• Understands Medicaid-funded services and the operational realities of IDD programs.
• Has experience supervising and developing direct support staff.
• Is highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Has strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Can analyze documentation, identify problems and follow through on solutions.
• Is comfortable working independently while also collaborating closely with an executive team.
• Is flexible, dependable and willing to roll up their sleeves when the situation requires it.
• Believes people with disabilities should have meaningful opportunities for choice, independence and community participation.

Master's degree in Human Services, Education, Business or a related field is preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $70,000–$75,000 annually

A Few Things You Should Know

This is a hands-on leadership position .

The Director works across all three of The Farmer’s House Day Habilitation locations and throughout the community based on the needs of the people we support and our staff.

The position requires occasional evening and weekend responsibilities , including special events and monthly Board meetings. Travel between The Farmer’s House locations and within the community is required.

The role may include periods of walking and standing and, depending on the needs of individuals supported, occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds.
