AY Lecturer Pool - Geosciences and Environment

Position Summary

College of Natural and Social Sciences – Department of Geography, Geology and Environment at California State University, Los Angeles (Cal State LA). The department seeks part‑time faculty lecturers for the 2026–2027 academic year. Positions are filled as needed each semester based on instructional demand and budgetary constraints; initial appointments are typically one semester.

Responsibilities

Lecturers will provide instruction, prepare classes, grade student work, conduct office hours, and perform other duties as assigned by the department. Course assignments, including dates, times, and modalities, are designated by the Department Chair under the College Dean’s direction.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree or doctoral degree from an accredited university.
• For lower‑division undergraduate courses: master’s or doctoral degree and substantial teaching experience.
• For upper‑division undergraduate or graduate courses: doctoral degree and substantial teaching experience; a master’s degree may be considered if the candidate demonstrates extensive field knowledge.
• Demonstrated excellence in college‑level teaching.
• Proficiency in written and oral use of English.
• Ability to work in a multiethnic, multicultural environment.
• Committed to student‑centered learning and teaching.
• Commitment to the campus values of engagement, service, and public good.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, inclusive environment.
• Relevant work experience and training.
• Appropriate doctoral or terminal degree.

Salary

Initial salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Salary ranges for each lecturer rank (effective 7/1/2024) are:

• Lecturer A: $5,507 – $6,677 per month.
• Lecturer B: $6,221 – $13,224 per month.
• Lecturer C: $6,825 – $14,523 per month.
• Lecturer D: $8,593 – $15,211 per month.

Official transcripts will be required upon an offer of employment.

Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States. Those holding a foreign terminal degree must submit a U.S. equivalency certification.

Background Check

All candidates must complete a satisfactory background check, including a criminal records check. Offers of employment are contingent upon this check and may be rescinded if disqualifying information is discovered. Candidates must disclose any final administrative or judicial determination of sexual harassment within the last seven years before an offer is extended.

Mandated Reporter Requirement

The position holder is considered a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and must comply with CSU Executive Order 1083.
