Summary Maintains responsibility for delivery of clinical primary care, urgent care or occupational medicine services. Job Description Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Provide daily physician management and treatment of patients at the clinic/practice. Provide clinical services to patients, including diagnosis, treatment and referral. Participate in the establishment of office policies, procedures and medical protocol necessary to provide physician clinic services. Appropriately refer patients to medical specialists. Comply with BMA/BCHS policies, procedures and pricing. Utilize program forms/computer system for charting. Comply with case management protocols. Assist with the clinic/practice's quality assurance and quality improvement plan. Work with Administration to ensure that the program operates in a manner consistent with appropriate medical policy and current professional standards in the specific area of care. Participate in community events and periodic public relations calls as time permits; duties may fall outside regular office hours. Maintain appropriate telephone contact with patients, payers and pharmacies. Perform physical exams including routine examinations, DOT examinations, post‑offer examinations, executive physicals, commercial driver’s license examinations, annual examinations, and school/sport physicals. Serve as Medical Review Officer (MRO) for drug screens, if required. Serve as Director for on‑site laboratory services if applicable to specific site. Key Accountabilities Daily Physician Management and Treatment of Patients (50%) Daily physician management and treatment of patients. Direct appropriate clinical services, tests and referrals. Perform physical exams and develop treatment plans. Maintain telephone contact with patients, payers and pharmacies. Compliance (25%) Comply with BCHS policies, procedures and pricing. Comply with clinical protocols. Comply with quality assurance and quality improvement. Participate in chart reviews and staff education when appropriate and maintain continuing education requirements. Policies and Procedures (25%) Work with administration to help assure that the management program operates within appropriate medical policies and procedures. Give feedback regarding treatment protocols. Participate in community events and public relations when appropriate. Minimum Education, Training and Experience Required Current valid and unrestricted license to practice in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Current valid and unrestricted DEA registration number. Eligible at all times to be insured for professional liability insurance. Board Certified or Board Eligible in appropriate specialty. BCLS required. Skills and Abilities Required Excellent understanding of limits and appropriate supervision. Ability to collaborate with other departments. Assist the surgeon in the office and operating room until all patients have been taken care of. Familiarity with laws and state regulations related to advanced nursing practice. Desire to maintain high level of quality of care. Promote application of research to clinical setting. Physical Requirements Strength – Occasionally lift objects under 20 lbs or push/pull carts over 20 lbs. Manual Dexterity – Perform simple motor skills, typing, data entry. Coordination – Perform gross motion tasks such as stooping, filing; hand‑eye coordination for keyboard use. Mobility – Move from department to department, building to building, sit for prolonged periods. Visual Discrimination – Read and view paper records and computer screens closely. Hearing – Answer the telephone in normal ambient noise. Mental Requirements Concentration – Concentrate on fine detail with some interruption. Attention Span – Attend to tasks >60 minutes; also Conceptualization – Understand and relate to concepts behind specific ideas and related theories. Memory – Remember multiple tasks over long periods. Communication – Convey verbally and in writing with advanced vocabulary; communicate reassuringly with patients and families. Clerical perception – Prevent errors in proofreading prescription labels and other clerical work. Working and Environmental Conditions Position requires exposure to infectious or communicable diseases, biohazardous or chemical materials.
