McNees, Wallace & Nurick is seeking an experienced Attorney to join our growing State and Local Tax (SALT) practice, with a primary focus on Maryland tax matters. This role is well‑suited for an attorney who brings deep technical SALT experience, strong client‑facing skills, and the ability to manage complex matters with a high degree of independence. The position offers meaningful responsibility, direct client interaction, and the opportunity to help shape and grow a sophisticated SALT practice in Maryland. Responsibilities Case Management: Take ownership of assigned matters from start to finish - review, analyze, and develop strategies to achieve successful outcomes. Legal Research & Analysis: Conduct thorough research using all available resources to support case strategies and provide well-informed advice. Document Drafting: Prepare, review, and finalize contracts, pleadings, agreements, and other legal documents with precision and attention to detail. Client Communication: Serve as a trusted advisor by maintaining regular, proactive communication with clients about case progress and next steps. Negotiation & Advocacy: Represent clients effectively in negotiations and work toward favorable resolutions whenever possible. Collaboration: Partner with senior attorneys and colleagues across practice areas to deliver comprehensive legal solutions. Compliance & Ethics: Uphold the highest standards of professional conduct, including adherence to state bar requirements and firm policies. Financial Responsibility: Assist in setting retainers, managing payment schedules, and ensuring timely collection of receivables for assigned cases. Continuous Learning: Stay current with legal developments and complete all required Continuing Legal Education (CLE) to maintain bar membership. Requirements Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school 5+ years of experience practicing Maryland state and local tax law Substantial experience with sales and use tax Strong knowledge of Maryland SALT issues; multistate experience, including PA, highly preferred Admission to practice law in Maryland Excellent analytical, writing, and oral advocacy skills Demonstrated ability to manage matters independently Client‑focused mindset with strong interpersonal and business judgment skills Prior experience in a law firm or sophisticated professional services environment required Compensation & Benefits Our total rewards package includes competitive pay, comprehensive health coverage, and bonus opportunities (based on firm and individual performance).
