Desktop Support Technician

Position Overview The Desktop Support Technician is the first line of technical support for P&E Constructors' employees across our office, shop, and project locations. This role resolves hardware, software, and access issues, prepares and issues equipment, and keeps employees productive on the systems they rely on every day. The ideal candidate is a customer-focused problem solver who enjoys working with people and technology, communicates clearly with non-technical users, and takes ownership of each request from intake to resolution. The Desktop Support Technician works closely with the IT Manager, the IT team, and third-party vendors to deliver consistent, secure, and well-documented support. Serve as the first point of contact for technical support requests submitted through the Tech Support inbox, phone, and walk-ups Troubleshoot and resolve Tier 1 and Tier 2 hardware, software, peripheral, printer, and network connectivity issues Escalate complex or Tier 3 issues to Senior Desktop Support Technicians and follow through to resolution Log, prioritize, and document all support requests, troubleshooting steps, and resolutions Set up, image, configure, and issue computers, mobile devices, and peripherals for new employees Enroll and manage devices in Microsoft Intune and verify compliance with company security policies Maintain the IT Equipment Tracking Log, including equipment issuance, returns, transfers, and retirements Repair, upgrade, and replace hardware as needed, and coordinate warranty repairs with vendors Create and manage user accounts in Microsoft 365 and Entra ID, including email accounts and email signatures for new hires and title changes Set up and manage user access for business systems, including Procore, COINS, Primavera (P6), and shared folders Configure scan-to-email and copier setups for new employees Support onboarding and offboarding, including account provisioning, access removal, and equipment recovery Support IT mobilization and demobilization for project sites, including setup of computers, printers, and connectivity Travel to and support employees at company locations in Indianapolis, Wichita, Houston, and Kountze, as well as active project sites Assist with tracking software licenses, renewal dates, and license counts Provide end-user guidance and basic training on Microsoft 365 and company-supported applications Follow IT security practices and support compliance with NIST 800-171 and company IT policies Create and maintain knowledge base articles, how-to guides, and standard operating procedures Participate in IT projects, system upgrades, and process improvement initiatives Requirements Associate's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered 1-3 years of experience in desktop support, help desk, or IT support roles Experience supporting Windows 10/11 environments and Microsoft 365 applications Experience with Active Directory, Entra ID (Azure AD), and user account management Experience deploying and managing devices with Microsoft Intune or a similar endpoint management tool is preferred Experience supporting printers, copiers, mobile devices, and basic network connectivity (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Wi-Fi, VPN) Familiarity with Procore, COINS, or Primavera (P6) is a plus Experience supporting construction, field, or multi-site operations is a plus CompTIA A+, Network+, or Microsoft 365 certifications are a plus Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical users Strong verbal and written communication skills Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, especially in documentation and equipment tracking Ability to manage multiple requests and prioritize based on business impact Ability to work independently and as part of a team Sound judgment when handling confidential information and security-related issues Dependable, accountable, and committed to following established processes Continuous learning mindset with adaptability to new technologies and systems At P&E Constructors, we believe in rewarding our employees through competitive compensation, employee ownership, and a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your financial wellbeing, health, and future. Compensation The market rate for the role is typically at the mid-point of the salary range; however, variations in final salary are determined by additional factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
