Youth Mentor & Engagement Specialist

Supervises: None

Schedule: Monday-Friday, approximately 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM

POSITION SUMMARY

The Youth Mentor & Engagement Specialist provides small-group academic instruction in reading, math, and STEM two days per week. This position delivers targeted lessons for groups of 2-5 students, aligned with state standards and student needs. The Youth Mentor & Engagement Specialist also conducts one weekly hands-on STEM activity for all students.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS STATEMENT(S)

• Provide targeted small-group tutoring aligned with academic standards and identified student needs.
• Break down complex skills into sequential steps using evidence-based strategies.
• Lead weekly STEM experiments/activities.
• Collaborate with the Connections Coordinator to identify priorities and student groupings.
• Monitor and document student progress.
• Ensure a supportive, encouraging learning environment.

Responsible for other duties as assigned.

POSITIONS QUALIFICATIONS SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred; two years of college coursework in education, math, science, or related field preferred, but not required

Experience: Experience tutoring or working with youth preferred

Licenses: Valid driver’s license and possess reliable transportation

Other Requirements: Must be at least 16 years of age; must pass background checks.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

A. Ability to Stand, Walk, sit, manually manipulate, reach outward and above shoulders, speak and bend on a daily basis

B. Capability to lift, carry, push or pull up to 30 lbs on a daily basis
