This opportunity is open to all interested candidates. The School Nurse & Substitute Nurse Pool is for assignments for the 2026-2027 school year. If you are currently in the 2025-2026 School Nurse and Substitute eligibility pool, you must submit a completed application to be considered for a position in the 2026-2027 school year. OVERVIEW:

POSITION SPECIFICS: This School Nurse & Subsstitute Nurse Pool is for assignments for the 2026-2027 school year.
The San Diego Unified School District accepts applications for the School Nurses on a continuous basis for regular full-time, part-time, and temporary assignments. Nurses in the District are itinerant, which means they may travel to one or more sites to serve students. This is a continuous recruitment which will be used to establish an ongoing eligibility list. Examples of Duties: The duties of a School Nurse include but are not limited to the following:
To be eligible for consideration, interested candidates must submit the following. Your application will be considered incomplete if you do not include all required information, including completion of the Work Experience and Education Sections of the online application, required attachments, and responses to all application questions.
The examination process will consist of an application screening based on the candidate's education, work history and responses to the supplemental questions. Professional References will be contacted for candidates who are selected to proceed in the examination process. Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination. Candidates selected to proceed in the examination process will be invited to an interview. Applicants who pass the examination process will be placed on an eligible list for a period of one school year. The eligible list will be used to fill vacancies at various school sites.

- Assess and evaluate the health and developmental status of pupils.
- Design and implement individual student health maintenance plans, incorporating plans directed by a physician.
- Refer the pupil and parent or guardian to appropriate community resources for necessary services.
- Interpret medical and nursing findings appropriate to students' individualized education program and make recommendations to professional personnel directly involved.
- Consult with, conduct in-service training for, and serve as a resource to teachers and administrators.
- Act as a participant in implementing a comprehensive health instruction curriculum for students.
- Develop and implement the health education curriculum.
- A valid School Nurse Services Credential,
- Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited university/program and a Registered Nurse license, or
- Enrolled in a college/university to attain a nursing services credential.

- A copy of a valid School Nurse Services Credential, proof of enrollment in a credential program, or a copy of Bachelor's Degree and Registered Nurse license.
- Contact information for three professional references must be listed under the 'References' section of the application. References should be from a current or previous supervisor. We will contact your professional references during the application screening process of this application. Written reference letters dated within the last year are also accepted and may be attached to your online application in the Reference section.
- Contact information for all previous places of employment where you served in a certificated position must be listed under the 'Employment History' section of the application (Assembly Bill 2534). As of January 1, 2025, in accordance with Education Code section 44939.5 (as amended by California AB 2534) applicants for certificated positions are required by law to provide a complete list of every school district, county office of education, charter school and/or state special school (also known as a Local Education Agency (LEA)) with which you have previously been employed, regardless of the length of service. The District may contact current and former LEAs at any time during the application screening process.
- In accordance with California Assembly Bill 2534, all applicants for certificated positions must provide a complete employment history. Please adhere to the following:
- List Every Educational Employer: You must include every school district, county office of education, charter school, other educational institutions, or state special school where you have been employed, regardless of your length of service.
