Recreation Director

 

Taylor Community is seeking a creative, compassionate, and energetic Recreation Director to lead and oversee recreation and therapeutic programming across our three campuses.

 

The Recreation Director will provide leadership and support to our Recreation Coordinators while ensuring residents across Assisted Living, Memory Care, and Nursing have access to meaningful, engaging, and person-centered opportunities that promote social connection, physical activity, cognitive engagement, creativity, and overall well-being.

 

What You'll Do

• Lead and support recreation programming across three Taylor Community campuses.
• Partner with Recreation Coordinators to develop engaging, diverse, and resident-focused programming.
• Oversee therapeutic recreation and specialized programming for residents with dementia and cognitive impairment.
• Coach, mentor, and support recreation staff while encouraging creativity and collaboration.
• Coordinate entertainers, instructors, speakers, community partners, special events, and campus-wide activities.
• Collaborate with Nursing, Rehabilitation, Care Management, Dining, Marketing, and other departments to support resident quality of life.
• Evaluate programs and use resident interests, participation, and feedback to continually improve programming.
• Assist with department budgeting, purchasing, documentation, and operational needs.
• Travel regularly between Taylor Community campuses and provide visible leadership and support to the recreation team.

 

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Therapy, Gerontology, Human Services, or a related field preferred. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education.
• Experience developing recreation, activities, therapeutic recreation, or enrichment programs for older adults preferred.
• Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
• Knowledge of dementia and person-centered approaches to engagement are required.
• Strong communication, organization, creativity, and interpersonal skills.
• A genuine passion for helping older adults remain active, connected, and engaged.
• Ability to work collaboratively with residents, families, staff, and community partners.
• Valid driver's license and ability to drive a 14-passenger bus.
• Flexibility to occasionally support evening, weekend, or holiday programs and special events.
