What You Will Own

•     Access control and visitor management. Monitor entry points, verify identification, issue and track visitor badges, and enforce Knollwood's visitor management policy. Deny entry when it is warranted and escalate cleanly when it is not simple.

•     Campus patrol. Conduct interior and exterior rounds on your assigned schedule. Document every round. Secure exterior doors, gates, and utility access points at shift close-out.

•     Systems monitoring. Watch CCTV and access control technology. Report anomalies and equipment failures the moment you see them, not at the end of the shift.

•     Emergency response. Respond to alarms, falls, elopements, and medical alerts in support of clinical staff. Initiate emergency protocols and contact emergency services as directed.

•     Documentation. Log every incident and unusual occurrence in the Security Incident Log within the same shift. The record you write is the record that protects residents, staff, and Knollwood.

•     Presence and de-escalation. Maintain a visible, professional presence in common areas. Resolve minor disturbances with calm, respectful, non-confrontational communication.

Your First 90 Days

•     Day 30 — Fully oriented to every post, patrol route, and emergency protocol on campus; DC Security Officer certification application submitted (Knollwood sponsors it).

•     Day 60 — Operating independently on your assigned shift with clean patrol and incident documentation; CPR/AED certification in place.

•     Day 90 — Known by name to residents on your shift; zero documentation gaps; trusted to hold the post without prompting.

What You Bring

Required

•     High school diploma or GED.

•     CPR/AED certification, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

•     Ability to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.

•     Ability to pass the background check, drug screening, and physical examination required for DC security officer certification.

Preferred

•     DC Security Officer certification (DLCP Occupational and Professional Licensing, in cooperation with MPD's Security Officers Management Branch), or eligibility to obtain within 60 days of hire. Knollwood sponsors the application and supports the process.

•     One or more years of security, law enforcement, or military service experience.

•     Experience in a healthcare, senior living, or controlled-access campus environment.

•     Veterans — particularly those with military police or security backgrounds — are strongly encouraged to apply.

Compensation and Benefits

Hourly Range: $19.50 – $24.00 per hour. Knollwood sets a starting floor of $19.50 per hour for this role — above the District of Columbia minimum wage — in recognition of the administrative, documentation, and resident-facing responsibilities this position carries beyond a standard post. The posted range reflects Knollwood's good-faith projection of what it would pay for this role at the time of posting, as required by the DC Wage Transparency Act. Shift differentials for evening, overnight, and weekend coverage are set by Knollwood.
