Director / Associate Vice President, Insurance Programs & Operations

Help evaluate new opportunities, oversee program performance, and build a growing insurance platform.

Compass Insurance Company is seeking an experienced insurance professional for a cross-functional role spanning new-program evaluation and underwriting, executive approval packages, ongoing program and claims oversight, and corporate initiatives.

Our current programs include passenger auto, paid family leave, and pet insurance, with others on the horizon. MGAs operate these programs, and MGAs/TPAs handle claims. Working with senior leadership, origination, and subject matter experts, you will help determine which programs we pursue, guide their launch, and hold partners accountable for performance.

The Role

This role reports directly to the CEO and Executive Managing Director of Avid Holdings.

You will contribute across the program lifecycle—from evaluating opportunities and preparing executive recommendations to monitoring active programs and driving improvements.

The role combines analytical judgment with hands-on execution. You will coordinate underwriting, claims, actuarial, finance, reinsurance, legal, and compliance specialists; translate findings into clear recommendations; and manage follow-through. You will also support corporate initiatives that strengthen Avid Holdings and Compass’s operations and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

New-Program Evaluation & Underwriting

• Partner with origination to assess programs and MGA relationships against Compass’s strategy, risk appetite, and capabilities.
• Lead program-level underwriting and due diligence covering pricing, guidelines, loss experience, exposures, projected economics, delegated authority, and MGA/TPA capabilities.
• Coordinate specialists to assess operational controls, claims, systems, and data quality; challenge assumptions and resolve diligence gaps.
• Prepare and submit executive approval packages outlining economics, risks, findings, recommended controls, and conditions to approval.
• Coordinate onboarding and launch, ensuring approval conditions, system access, reporting, authority limits, and oversight requirements are established.

Program Performance & Partner Oversight

• Monitor programs against approved business plans, underwriting guidelines, delegated authority, and profitability expectations.
• Track growth, pricing, business mix, concentrations, retention, loss experience, and program economics.
• Conduct file reviews and targeted audits to identify exceptions and control weaknesses.
• Lead partner and management performance reviews, recommend improvements, and track corrective actions through resolution.

Claims Oversight

• Monitor MGA/TPA compliance with claims standards, authority limits, and reporting requirements.
• Review selected files and track frequency, severity, reserve development, litigation, expenses, and large losses.
• Identify leakage and emerging issues; coordinate technical reviews with Compass’s Chief Claims Officer and incorporate findings into underwriting and program decisions.

Reporting & Corporate Initiatives

• Develop dashboards, scorecards, and executive reporting with program-specific KPIs, thresholds, and escalation triggers.
• Validate data quality and reconcile reported performance with underlying systems.
• Present actionable recommendations and track executive decisions through implementation.
• Lead or support operational improvements, systems implementation, governance processes, and strategic projects across Avid Holdings and Compass.
• Build repeatable processes that support growth and accountability.

What We’re Looking For

An insurance professional who can evaluate opportunities, coordinate specialists, make sound recommendations, and remain accountable for execution and performance.

• Meaningful experience in program underwriting, program management, carrier operations, or delegated authority oversight.
• Strong understanding of underwriting, claims, loss development, and program economics.
• Experience evaluating programs or MGA relationships and preparing approval recommendations for senior leadership.
• Ability to synthesize expert input, identify risks, oversee partner performance, and manage corrective actions.
• Strong analytical and communication skills, with proficiency in insurance systems, spreadsheets, and reporting tools.
• Independent judgment, constructive partner management, and the ability to lead multiple cross-functional projects.
• An entrepreneurial mindset and willingness to contribute across program operations and corporate priorities.

Experience across multiple lines of business is valuable. CPCU, ARM, AIC, or similar designations are a plus.
