Kapi Cafe - Barista

Barista Position at Grand Casino Hotel & Resort

The Barista will be responsible for all brewing practices, day to day production of coffee, inventory management, cleaning & maintenance of espresso machine and all associated equipment and supplies, and all record-keeping. The Barista is expected to work autonomously as well as with the rest of the Food Court staff.

Major duties include leading and acting in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values; welcoming customers by determining their coffee needs; educating customers on the menu, specials, and promotions; maintaining and tracking inventory of the products in the coffee shop; replenishing products as they are out; ensuring that all beer is produced according to defined quality standards and specifications; preparing beverages following recipes; receiving and processing payments; meeting production goals and standards while managing manufacturing costs; troubleshooting tools and machines when needed; ensuring safe brewery operation including enforcement of safety rules; abiding by all food safety, safety, and GMP rules & regulations; and performing other job duties as assigned.

Knowledge required includes public health prescribed methods of handwashing techniques, courteous and inappropriate greeting techniques, infection control factors, reading, writing, and interpreting simple instructions, operating brewery equipment, sanitation and health department regulations for safe handling alcohol.

The scope and effect involve ensuring coffees and teas are brewed according to each recipe for consistency, maintaining a clean and sanitary work environment, and providing support for fellow team members.

Guidelines include ensuring inventory is put away and organized properly, ensuring coffee is brewed properly, ensuring daily quality tasks are complete, ensuring daily production tasks are complete, and ensuring the brewery is always clean, neat, and orderly to present a "Tour Ready" image to the guests.

Purpose of contacts includes passion for coffee, effective interpersonal and communication skills at all organizational levels, commitment to maintaining a safe work environment, some knowledge of brewing and food manufacturing, and basic mechanical troubleshooting ability.

Physical demands include the ability to lift fifty (50) pounds from floor to overhead throughout a shift, work in wet and dusty environments, work in confined spaces when required, and work any shift including weekends when called upon.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED equivalent, good verbal and writing skills, and basic math. Ability to work any shift, start time, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred qualifications include 1-2 years coffee shop experience, food prep or other food manufacturing experience, and six months experience working in the beverage industry.
