Critical Care Float APP Fellowship

Job Summary:

SUNY Upstate Medical University is seeking highly skilled and motivated Advanced Practice Providers to be a part of Upstate's APP Fellowship Program , providing care to our Medical ICU, Trauma Surgery, Neuro ICU, CCU and Cardiac Surgery Services .


This position is based in a Level I Trauma Center that provides critical care and services to patients across a 17+ county region. Scheduling is determined based on operational needs. Upstate operates 24 hours a day/Seven days a week , providing continuous care to our region.

Position is a Temporary 10-month postgraduate program for Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants . The Fellowship is intended for new graduates as well as APPs with experience who are interested in critical care medicine. The core focus of the program is the management of patients with acute complex medical needs. There are specialty rotations with Hospitalist, Palliative Care, Neurology Stroke, and Cardiology.

Key Responsibilities:

• Learning will be completed through clinical immersion, didactic lectures, simulation and self-guided learning.
• APP fellows will be integrated into multidisciplinary teams with various types of learners.
• Fellows will learn to conduct comprehensive assessments, diagnosis, management, treatment/interventions, interpret laboratory tests & diagnostic studies, and arrange referrals, consultations, and therapeutic services.
• Comprehensive documentation in the EHR
• Build and maintain strong relationships with patients, families, referring physicians, and all members of the health care team.

As an APP , you will be an integral member of hospital medicine multidisciplinary Healthcare Team, demonstrating professionalism, leadership, and a commitment to Upstate's mission, vision, and values, while adhering to all institutional policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master's Degree as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
• NYS Licensed/Registered NP or PA.
• Current National Certification consistent to the clinical practice.
• Have a NPI number and be Medicare enrolled with a Medicare Identification Number (or PTAN) (or eligible for Medicare Enrollment within 6 months of hire.
• CPR-BLS Certification required at the time of appointment.
• Must successfully pass pre-employment and credentialing clearances.

Preferred Qualifications:

Critical Care experience as an RN or through Clinical Rotations.

Work Days:

This position requires working Rotating shifts of 8 to 12 hours, including Days, Nights, Weekends, and Holidays, in accordance with operational needs.
