Position Overview
House of Rocks is a premier natural stone and landscaping supply business in Kansas City, Kansas. We are looking for an experienced, service-minded leader with prior management experience for a year-round, full-time Manager in Training position. We do not use high-pressure sales tactics. Your primary focus will be delivering outstanding customer service, leading counter operations, building long-term relationships with contractor and retail clients, and guiding daily team workflows.

Schedule, Seasonality, and Operations
Our industry is highly seasonal, offering high earnings via overtime during peak months and a more flexible schedule during winter:

- Peak Season (Mid-March to Mid-December): Monday through Saturday (Sundays off). Expect a fast-paced, high-energy environment. Shifts are 9+ hours with mandatory Saturdays and regular overtime.
- PTO Blackout Dates: To support peak customer volume between April and October, PTO blackout dates apply around major holiday weekends (Memorial Day weekend, 4th of July days adjacent, and Labor Day weekend).
- Winter Season (Mid-December to Mid-March): Business slows down significantly. We maintain year-round employment near 40 hours/week by scheduling a day off during the week and focusing on facility maintenance, inventory, and special projects.
- Daily Operations: Open M-F (7:30 AM – 5:30 PM) and Saturday (9:00 AM – 3:00 PM). Shift schedules rotate between opening (7:30 AM – 5:00 PM) and closing (8:00 AM – 5:30 PM). Full 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM coverage may be required during peak volume.
- Meals & Rest Periods: Lunches (30 minutes) are scheduled around daily customer flow. On high-volume peak days where staying on duty is required, meal times are fully paid.
- Work Environment: You will balance desk work with outdoor customer assistance in our yard and warehouse. Attire should be practical for working outdoors across all Midwest weather conditions (company supplies boots, pants, shirts, and hoodies).

Core Responsibilities
- Lead counter operations, greeting incoming customers immediately and prioritizing counter transactions and phone calls.
- Walk clients directly to product displays in the outdoor yard to assist with selections and finalize orders.
- Provide consultative support, project estimates, technical material advice, and team leadership.
- Utilize Point of Sale (POS) software, tag customer orders, and coordinate delivery schedules via Google Calendar.

Requirements
- Management Experience: Proven track record supervising team members or managing retail/counter operational workflows.
- Language Skills: Fluent bilingual proficiency in both English and Spanish required.
- Leadership & Mindset: Strong communication skills focused on customer satisfaction and staff mentorship rather than high-pressure sales tactics.
- Digital Proficiency: Comfort managing POS software, scheduling tools (Google Calendar), and handling multi-line phone calls in a fast-paced setting.
- Physical Stamina: Comfortable walking the yard and working outdoors in varying seasonal weather.

Compensation & Benefits
- Base Rate: $28.00/hour + peak-season overtime pay.
- Health Stipend: $225/month direct contribution toward individual health coverage + optional HSA plan.

- Paid Holidays: Straight-time pay for New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, plus paid half-days for Christmas Eve & New Year's Eve.
- PTO Plan: Accrual starts after 60 days (up to 40 hours in Year 1; 80 hours at Year 2; 120 hours at Year 5). Up to 5 days rollover allowed; unused non-rollover PTO is paid out annually.
- Retirement (401k): Guaranteed 3% company contribution regardless of employee contribution, with 100% immediate vesting (eligible after age 21 and 1 year of service). Pre-tax and Roth options available.
- Uniforms Provided: Includes company-paid boots, pants, shirts, and hoodie.

Physical Requirements & Legal Disclosures
This position involves frequent walking to observe various areas of the business. Ability to quickly walk from location to location throughout the yard is essential. Day to day duties will involve standing or sitting for extended periods and may involve infrequent lifting of up to 25 lbs. Ability to stand and walk for several hours per day in outdoor conditions.
