Radiation Therapist

Uses radiation to treat patients in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist. Specific duties include:

• Checking patient information.
• Preparing room and equipment.
• Communicating with patient.
• Transferring patient.
• Performing radiation treatment.
• Maintaining schedule.
• Maintaining supplies.
• Keeping records.
• Assisting with teaching.

Minimum required skills and knowledge:

• Min 2 years of experience.
• Experience with EMR, treatment delivery, and imaging systems.
• A developing therapist producing knowledge and skills with the principles of growth and development of a patient life span, assessing data reflective of patient's status and interpretation of information relative to age-specific needs.
• Knowledge of medical office operations and medical terminology.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word and Outlook.

Job complexity:

• Implements prescription and treatment plan as directed by the Radiation Oncologist.
• Operates therapeutic equipment, demonstrating proper patient positioning and monitoring of the patient during procedures which are semi-routine in nature.
• Performs daily equipment warm-up and quality assurance procedures.
• Accurately completes and charts simulation and treatment summaries, reports and documentations.

Minimum required certifications and training:

• Graduation from an AART approved program in Radiation Therapy Technology.
• Supervision: Normally follows established procedures on day-to-day work.
• AART Certification.
• Valid CPR certification.
• Maintains registration in good standing with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and the state licensing authority of the state which the clinic is located.

Typical education and experience:

• Associate degree or bachelor's degree in radiation therapy or related field.
• Graduation from an AART approved program in Radiation Therapy Technology.
• AART Certification.
• Valid CPR certification.
• 2-3 years of work experience as a certified/licensed radiation therapist.
