Gary Railway Company | Electrician (GRW-0073) Gary, IN, USA Job Description Posted Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at 4:00 AM The Locomotive Electrician is a Maintenance of Equipment, Locomotive Department position of the Gary Railway Company of Transtar LLC. The Locomotive Electrician is responsible for the inspection and repair of electrical wiring components on locomotives, machinery, buildings, miscellaneous equipment, and appliances in field and shop environments. Job Responsibilities: Receives instructions regarding work to be done. Determines materials and required tools. Performs inspection utilizing meters, analyzes trouble areas and makes repairs as required. Performs necessary electrical tests, removes, disassembles, replaces, repairs, modifies, rebuilds, assembles, adjusts, and maintains batteries and all electrical equipment or components on locomotives, road maintenance equipment, lighting circuits, crane circuits, air compressors, building and shop facilities, and equipment. Perform incidental heating and burning. Duties may also include working on railroad signal systems, which may require the ability to perform strenuous work using hand tools, (such as pick and shovel) in the construction, wiring and troubleshooting of railroad signal and crossing systems. Job Requirements: Valid driver's license is required. High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required. Trade school or formal electrical maintenance training required. Journeyman Electrician or four (4) years Locomotive electrical maintenance work experience or related education is required. Print reading experience preferred. Troubleshooting experience preferred. Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and on-call is required. One year of outdoor and industrial work experience is preferred. Ability to climb is required. Working at heights is required.
