Neuro MedSurg/Telemetry RN — Assignment Details

Unit: 22-bed Neuro unit

Requirements

• At least 2 years of strong MedSurg/Telemetry experience
• Neuro experience and 1 completed travel assignment required
• Active Illinois RN license; active temporary IL license accepted
• AHA BLS, AHA ACLS and NIHSS
• Recent Epic experience required
• Strong neuro assessment, critical thinking and teamwork skills

Schedule and patient care

• Patients: Stroke/CVA, spine and back/neck surgery, cerebral angiogram and general medical overflow
• Ratios: Typically 1:4; may increase to 1:5 for two nurses when medical census is high
• Skills: NIHSS, dysphagia screening, telemetry interpretation, strict intake/output, catheter care, blood administration, venipuncture/blood cultures, NG tubes and drain management
• Drips: Stable drips; no amiodarone or Cardizem. Heparin initiation/titration is listed separately and needs clarification.
• Floating: May float to the medical unit
• Weekends/Holidays: Every other weekend and every other holiday
• On-call: None listed
