The Work You Will Do: Equipment Operator District One / District Maintenance / Heartland Operations Center This position will operate vehicles and a variety of small and medium equipment while performing bridge and roadway maintenance. This position uses a variety of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools to maintain bridges and roadways. This position will be expected to perform independent manual labor incidental to job assignments with minimal supervision. Where You Will Work: Heartland Operations Center - Peace River
8703 US HWY 17 S Zolfo Springs, Florida 33890 Annual Salary Range: $1752.37 BI-WEEKLY Your Specific Responsibilities: Performs minor maintenance and servicing work in connection with any type of equipment operated and assists in the repairs of this equipment; checks and adds fluids, checks/adjusts brakes, maintains proper air pressure in all tires, etc. Cleans and washes equipment. After obtaining the required Instructional CDL permit or license, operates vehicles and a variety of small and medium equipment that may include, but not limited to; dump truck, front end loader, skid steer loader, grader, lift equipment, small bulldozer and asphalt repair truck while performing bridge and roadway maintenance; Supervises Department of Corrections inmates crew performing maintenance activities. Oversees crews performing maintenance activities.
Uses a variety of hand, pneumatic, and electrical tools to maintain bridges and roadways. Performs independent manual labor incidental to job assignments with minimal supervision. Performs tree trimming, rough carpentry, masonry, painting and/or assists in the assembly and erection of highway signs. Performs Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic). Assists with crew activity reports as needed. The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of:
- Mathematical calculations
- Standard safety rules and procedures
- Operating a variety of hand and power tools
- Operating and performing minor maintenance on small/medium equipment and vehicles
- Operate a variety of heavy equipment
- Read and understand job-related materials and fill out reports and forms
- Maintain and repair highways, bridges and/or other highway structures
- Communicate both verbally and in writing, including following oral/written instructions
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with others
- Lift, carry, and handle up to 50 pounds
- Stoop, climb, squat, push, pull, crawl or bend on a frequent basis
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions on various terrains and at various heights or in high volume traffic
- Work independently
- Stand for an extended period of time
- three (3) or more moving violations in the past three (3) years that accumulate three (3) or more points per violation;
- any two (2) convictions of reckless driving in the past three (3) years;
- a suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past three (3) years; and
- a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction, in the past four (4) years.
