GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

To maintain, repair, inspect, plan, modify, design, installand calibrate instrumentation and control systems for water and wastewater facilities; to maintain and repair water/wastewater related process equipment,and computer interface software and equipment.

ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS/TYPICALTASKS:

Installinstrumentationsystemsrelatedtoelectronics,instrumentationcontrol,telemetry, telecommunications, hydraulics, pneumatics and a variety of other systems. Recordandverifyaccuracyof flow, temperature, pressureandothermeasuring, recordingand transmitting devices associated with water wastewater facilities. Participateinthefabrication,mountingandwiringofsystemsanddevices. Maintain calibration, configuration control, preventive maintenance, and system integrity records; recommendcalibrationintervals;perform routinealignmentandcalibrationonelectronicequipment. Design andrepairinstrumentationsystems,equipmentandcomponents,both in the fieldand inthe shop. Diagnose,troubleshoot,updateand repairmalfunctioningsystemsandequipment,calibration problems and other measuring, recording and transmitting device failures. Modify,design,andchangecontrolcircuits,installtemporarysystemstosustainoperations. Ensuresafeandreliablepowertoallelectronicprocesses. Modifyandimplementcomputersoftwareprogramsfordataloggingandcontrol. Maintainefficient recordson operationsandactivities;coordinateandprepareavarietyof reportson data. Interpret andmodifydrawings,blueprints, schematicsanddiagramsfor;estimatingtime andmaterials and as-built data. Requisitionmaterialsandsuppliesforsystem requirements;providedirection to subordinates,outside contractors, engineers, and vendors. Performrelateddutiesandresponsibilitiesasrequired. Abilitytofielddesign (improvise)a replacementsystemtomaintain compliance with state and local codes and regulations. Abilityto communicateeffectivelywith countystaffandthegeneralpublicinboth verbalandwritten forms. Abilitytoprepareprojectcostestimates. Abilitytocommunicateeffectivelywithcounty staffandthegeneralpublic inbothverbaland written forms.

KNOWLEDGE,SKILLSANDABILITIES:

Technicaloperationandmaintenanceofmodernelectricdevices. Understandtheoperatingcharacteristicsofelectroniccomponents. Principlesandpracticesofinstrumentationcalibrationandalignmentprocedures. Occupational hazards and standard safety practices and electrical codes. Modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment. Characteristic operations of water and wastewater facilities.

EDUCATIONANDEXPERIENCE:

Highschooldiplomaorequivalent. Two-yeardegreeinanadvancedelectronicsfield. Minimumoffive yearsofincreasinglyresponsibleexperienceinthemaintenance,repair,fabrication and installation of instrumentation systems in a water/wastewater treatment system desirable. Substantialcourseworkinwater/wastewaterelectronicsandelectricityishighlydesirable.

PHYSICALREQUIREMENTS:

This is sometimesheavywork requiring theexertion of 100poundsofforce occasionally, up to50pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitivemotions.Vocalcommunication is required forexpressingorexchanging ideas by means of spoken word.Hearing is required toperceive information atnormalspoken word levels.Visual acuity is required for color perception, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arms’ length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions and oils. The worker may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
