Sr Controls Engineer - Data Center Engines

Location: Houston, Texas (with frequent travel to customer sites) Summary This position is responsible for the development, validation, and field execution of control systems supporting high-output reciprocating engines. The role operates at the intersection of engineering design, commissioning, and technical problem solving, collaborating across distributed engineering teams and customer sites to deliver reliable and high-performing control strategies. The successful candidate will play a key role in bridging product development and real-world application while driving continuous system improvement. Job Duties Controls Development & Field Execution Lead development and validation of engine control systems, including hardware and embedded software components Support commissioning and startup activities at customer installations Diagnose and resolve system-level issues encountered during field deployment Analyze operational and test data to generate actionable recommendations for engineering teams and customers Product Improvement & Technical Ownership Identify and implement enhancements to system performance, reliability, and control architecture Contribute to new product concepts, feature development, and technical documentation Support continuous improvement of control strategies based on field feedback and validation results Project Delivery & Coordination Plan and execute validation campaigns aligned with project schedules and technical objectives Track progress across multiple workstreams and maintain visibility with internal stakeholders Define task scopes, set priorities, and support closure of technical gaps within teams Provide technical guidance and support to service and field personnel Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams across multiple geographic locations Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure successful project delivery Serve as a key point of contact for controls-related topics across North America and global teams Job Requirements Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field Experience designing and validating control systems for internal combustion engines or similar equipment Strong knowledge of modern control system development tools, methodologies, and diagnostic techniques Hands‑on experience supporting equipment in field or commissioning environments Demonstrated ability to manage technically complex projects and contribute within cross-functional teams Strong project execution skills, including planning, progress tracking, and delivery management Effective communication skills with the ability to convey technical information to diverse audiences Collaborative mindset with the ability to work across multiple teams and stakeholders Experience managing technical scope, timelines, and deliverables within engineering programs Willingness to travel up to approximately 60% to customer sites Valid driver’s license and authorization to work in the United States Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
