TITLE: PFS Technical Coordinator - Hospital JOB OVERVIEW: This position is responsible for direct supervision of the Patient Financial Services staff, greeting patients as needed, communication with clinical departments, customer service, provides office with pertinent information, supplies and ordering as needed. Actively participates in the quality improvement of the department. Provides training for new staff. Evaluates staff productivity and performance. Performs and directs other duties necessary for the daily operation of the Patient Financial Services Department. Provides supervision and support for the Department under the direction and oversight of a Manager. DEPARTMENT: Patient Financial Services WORK HOURS: Typically Monday - Friday; Days REPORTS TO: Manager, Patient Financial Services Prerequisites: Associates degree or B.A./B.S. degree is preferred. Requires at least 3 years experience working in a hospital PFS department. Prefer at least 1 year experience as a lead or supervisor. Microsoft Office software and patient accounting system competency. Proven leadership ability and experience, including ability to motivate team members and develop and achieve performance goals. Ability to communicate effectively in the English language. Qualifications Demonstrates excellent verbal and interpersonal communications skills. Excellent service and problem resolution customer service skills. Demonstrates leadership and the ability to be role model in teamwork situations. Flexibility and adaptability to keep organized and positive in a climate of change. Demonstrates "hands on" knowledge of the functions that the Supervisor is responsible for such as billing, insurance follow-up, customer service, collections, or cash posting. Demonstrates the ability to give direction and obtain results from others. Demonstrates ability to counsel and discuss improvements in work performance. Assists with annual staff evaluations and staff counseling as directed by Manager. Unique Physical/Mental Demands, Environment, And Working Conditions Requires typing, legible handwriting and computer/keyboard skills. Excellent telephone skills are essential. Regular and punctual attendance is a condition of employment. Requires the ability to maintain self-composure and a positive attitude under stress. Requires flexible scheduling and overtime as needed. Requires problem solving and coaching ability and effective resolution of conflicts. Essential Responsibilities And Competencies Interviews and makes hiring recommendations for candidates for employment. Coordinates and provides training and orientation of new staff. Acts as expert resource. Independently resolves unique one-of-a-kind, complex issues. Collaborates and shares knowledge with team members. Monitors workload assignments. Assists with the maintenance of staff education records. Monitor supplies cost and usage and report to department manager as necessary. Assists in department QA/QC/QI projects as directed. Write/maintain PFS Department procedure manuals and competency documentation. Maintains efficient workflow and staff work schedules. Maintains positive inter-personal collegial work relationships. Maintain effective relationships with key personnel at payers, vendors and VMC Depts. Recommends hiring, termination, promotion, and corrective action decisions. Develops and presents staff 90 day and annual performance evaluations. Provides input on operating and capital budgets. Participates and is able to facilitate staff meetings as required. Researches and resolves customer complaints. Attends all available internal and external leadership and education meetings. Participates in internal operations meetings as directed by Manager or Director. Maintains confidentiality of all protected health information. Demonstrates the awareness of the importance of cost containment for the Department. Provide suggestions regarding process or quality improvement opportunities. Works to ensure compliance with VMC, governmental, and payer regulations and rules. In order to maintain skill levels, and to ensure that work gets completed, the Tech Coordinator may need to provide coverage during short staffing due to illness or severe weather.
