PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION

This position involves a blend of patient care and administrative duties, including preparing patients for procedures, assisting dentists during treatments, sterilizing instruments, and educating patients on oral hygiene.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required or assigned.

• Assist dentist in the Anderson County Dental Clinic as well as assistant in the Emory Valley Dental Clinic alongside volunteers one day a month
• Support and assist the dental clinic manager in scheduling and providing dental services in an efficient manner
• Work under the direction of the dentist
• Maintain Tennessee Dental assistant license in good standing and current with no lapse
• Maintain required CE through the dental board and keep records
• Maintain active CPR verification, which will be provided by the dental clinic
• Maintain supplies appropriately and keep the rooms well stocked for procedures
• Assisting with supply orders that will need to be approved by the office manager
• Upon receipt of supplies, items are to be checked to ensure order is accurate and matches the packing slip; all records with POs are to be given to the office manager after review.
• Responsible for weekly autoclave spore tests and documentation
• Responsible for autoclave maintenance monthly
• Greeting patients when they sign in and monitor arrival time
• Set up treatment rooms for procedures
• Obtain and review health histories according to office protocol
• Ensure patients are always attended to and anticipate dentist's need
• Acquiring x-rays directed by the dentist
• Chart patients and record date, service rendered, and any charges, ensure proper treatment notes are recording in patients chart.
• Maintain cleanliness of treatment rooms as well as lab in according to sterilization procedures
• Disinfect treatment rooms and sterilize instruments and handpieces according to OSHA regulations
• Ensure that office sterilization procedures document is on display confirming patient appointments on a weekly basis
• Securely store and handle patient records in compliance with state and federal requirements, including the HIPAA privacy and security regulations
• Help in other areas of the office when necessary (i.e., answering phones, unpacking supplies, completing insurance forms, etc.)
• Be an active participant in team meetings
• Good interpersonal skills to maintain effective rapport with patients, dentists, other staff members and community

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Will comply with all applicable federal, state, local, and center rules, regulations, protocols, and procedures governing the practice of dentistry and clinical provision of dental care relating to, but not limited to, personnel issues, workplace safety, public health, and confidentiality
• Active Registered Dental Assistant License with State of Tennessee
• Maintain required continuing education for Tennessee license
• CPR certified
