Software Engineering Mgr - Digital Payment Development

Job Profile Location: Jacksonville, FL; Miamisburg, OH; Pittsburgh, PA; or Dallas, TX. PNC will not provide visa sponsorship. As a Software Engineering Manager supporting Digital Payment Development, you will lead a team of engineers delivering high‑availability, secure, and maintainable payment and money‑movement capabilities. You will manage engineering talent across product lines, build a culture of craftsmanship, and drive technology modernization. Key Responsibilities Manage a group of software engineers across Digital Payment product lines; ensure predictable delivery and operational excellence. Own end‑to‑end SDLC execution, balancing delivery speed with quality and risk controls. Establish and continuously improve engineering practices that raise code quality, reduce defects, and increase reliability. Lead solution architecture and design discussions for Java/Spring Boot services and integrations; ensure designs meet scalability, resiliency, and maintainability needs. Champion clean coding standards and SOLID principles; drive patterns enabling team autonomy. Promote 12‑factor development principles for service configuration, observability, and deployability; partner with platform/ops for operational readiness. Ensure healthy CI/CD pipelines and effective git branching strategies; align team workflows to reduce merge risk. Drive production readiness: monitoring, alerting, runbooks, and incident response improvements. Model adherence to access controls and environment governance. Own talent management: recruiting, mentoring, coaching, fostering learning culture. Build and sustain high‑performing teams through clear goals, delegation, accountability, and development plans. Foster technological innovation while maintaining disciplined risk management. Lead delivery through ticket‑based workflow (e.g., Jira); establish Definition of Ready/Done. Implement backlog refinement, metrics for cycle time, defect leakage, and rework. Partner with Quality Engineers; ensure test strategy coverage across unit, integration, and end‑to‑end layers. Drive test‑driven and behavior‑driven development practices. Promote reusable test patterns and fast‑running suites. Required Technical Qualifications Java expertise, including modern language features and best practices. Strong experience with Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, dependency injection, security patterns, and testing. Solid database engineering knowledge (MySQL, Oracle), data modeling, performance tuning, and SQL fluency. Demonstrated mastery of SDLC disciplines and quality practices. Hands‑on CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices; guide teams on build/deploy reliability. Proficiency with git workflows and branching strategies. Proven ability to lead solution architecture and design decisions; communicate trade‑offs clearly. Preferred / Nice‑to‑Have Qualifications Experience modernizing legacy services toward modular, decoupled architectures. Familiarity with containerization and platform deployment patterns. Experience in regulated environments with controls, approvals, and auditability. Soft Skills & Leadership Behaviors Clear, confident communication; explains complex topics succinctly. Strong documentation discipline: design docs, runbooks, operational playbooks, and decision records. Exceptional organizational skills; manages priorities and aligns stakeholders. Leadership and people development: coaches engineers, builds culture of learning, handles change. Cross‑functional partnership with product, QA, ops, security, risk, and adjacent teams.
