Youth Education Manager
$69.4k - $113.1kCommunity Food Works
About Community Food Works
Community Food Works exists to make local food inclusive of everyone. We're building a place where as many people as possible eat, enjoy, and ask for more of the food that's good for them and good for our community. We produce and distribute delicious, affordable local food that reaches community members in schools and food pantries - places typically left out of the local food picture. We're funded by the NoVo Foundation and rooted in Kingston, NY.
The Role
Our education programming is anchored to the food we actually make and distribute - the bread that's already in Kingston school cafeterias, the tortilla chips kids are already eating, the produce going into their school meals every week. We show up at schools and community sites to make that food more familiar, more connected, and more wanted. Then we leave, and the food is still there.
We're looking for someone to lead this work. That means being in the room with kids most of the time - running tastings, cooking sessions, and hands-on experiences that build real relationships between kids and local food. It also means building the systems, partnerships, and curriculum that let this work happen consistently across many sites without heroic effort every time.
This person reports to Bryn Roshong, our Director of Community Impact, and joins a team that includes account managers for schools and emergency food providers. Those relationships are already built - the account managers stay close to school food administrators and pantry staff and will help open doors and maintain trust. The Education Program Manager's job is to show up inside those relationships and do the programming work.
What You'll Do
Program Delivery (roughly 70% of your time)
- Show up at schools and community sites in and around Kingston to run hands-on food education experiences
- Run tastings, cooking activities, and food-meets-maker sessions connected to what CFW produces and distributes
- Build on established trust with school food administrators, teachers, and pantry staff - the people who determine whether we keep showing up
- Adapt on the fly; what works at one school won't always work at the next
- Work closely with account managers who own the school and pantry relationships - they're your connective tissue to each site
Program Management and Development (roughly 30%)
- Own the scheduling, logistics, and follow-through that account managers have been doing as a side responsibility - this is your core job
- Build the systems (templates, calendars, supply kits, partner playbooks) that let programming scale across sites without starting from scratch each time
- Develop and refine programming in close collaboration with Bryn and the Community Impact team, grounded in CFW's approach: hands-on, tied to our products, repeatable
- Collaborate with partner organizations offering school garden, agriculture, and nutrition education programming
- Track what's working - which schools want more, which activities land, which partnerships are deepening
- Help the team learn what programming moves people toward eating and asking for more local food
- Draw on the broader CFW team to bring programming to life - the people who actually make the food. You're the one organizing and running the experience, but you're not doing it alone, and having the people behind the food in the room is part of what makes it work.
What We're Looking For
- Experience running food, nutrition, or community education programming with kids - you know what it feels like to hold a room of 25 third graders while also making a point about where their lunch came from
- Comfort working across institutional settings - schools, food pantries, community organizations - and reading what each one needs
- Strong organizer; you build systems because you want the work to scale, not because you like spreadsheets
- Low ego, high follow-through; you're the kind of person who closes the loop without being asked
- Genuine connection to the mission - local food, community access, kids and families eating better
- Familiarity with the Hudson Valley food landscape is a plus; it's not a requirement
A Note on Scope
CFW's education programming is intentionally narrow, but built for collaboration with partner organizations. We connect people to food we make, source, and distribute. We don't do general nutrition education, school gardens, or one-off events at organizations we have no other relationship with. If you're someone who wants to build a broad food education empire, this isn't the right fit. If you want to go deep in a specific community, with food people are actually eating, and build something that lasts - it might be.
Location & Compensation
This role is based in Kingston, NY. Most of your time will be spent in schools and community spaces, concentrated in Kingston and surrounding areas. This is an in-person role.
The compensation available for the role considers a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual skill set, previous/applicable experience, and other organizational needs.
The estimated salary range for this role is $69,400 - $113,100 with competitive benefits.
