Lead Direct Support Professional (LDSP)

Job Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

The Lead Direct Support Professional (LDSP) provides direct support services to individuals while assisting the Site Supervisor in maintaining daily program operations and compliance with organizational, state, federal, and local requirements. This role serves as a mentor and leader to Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), modeling professional behavior, promoting person-centered support, and helping individuals develop greater independence and quality of life.

The LDSP works collaboratively with staff, management, and other stakeholders to ensure high-quality services are delivered in accordance with Individual Service Plans (ISPs). A strong commitment to organizational values, dignity, respect, and trauma-informed care is essential.

Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesStaff Leadership & Support

• Partner with Direct Support Professionals, management, and internal stakeholders to ensure services are implemented according to Individual Service Plans (ISPs).
• Mentor, train, observe, and support DSP team members.
• Provide coaching and constructive feedback to promote quality service delivery.
• Serve as a role model by demonstrating professionalism, effective communication, and person-centered support practices.

Direct Support Services

• Provide direct care and support to individuals in accordance with applicable state, local, and federal regulations.
• Assist individuals with achieving goals that promote independence, community involvement, and daily living skills.
• Develop and maintain organized systems within assigned homes or program areas based on individual support needs, ISP requirements, and budget guidelines.
• Foster a safe, respectful, and trauma-informed environment.

Program Operations

• Collaborate with management to support the daily operation of the program.
• Assist with maintaining compliance, documentation, and service standards.
• Support program readiness and operational efficiency.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

QualificationsRequired

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience supporting individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) and/or mental health challenges.
• Basic computer proficiency, including email, electronic documentation, timekeeping systems, and data entry.
• Understanding of trauma, trauma-informed care, and creating supportive environments.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required background clearances, including FBI clearance when applicable.

Preferred

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.

Working Environment

This position primarily works within participants' homes and community-based settings.

Environmental Conditions

The role may involve exposure to:

• Dust, fumes, mists, or gases
• Extreme heat or cold
• Wet or humid conditions
• Loud noise levels
• Confined spaces
• Mechanical, chemical, electrical, or burn hazards

Physical RequirementsPhysical Demands

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, and move throughout the workday.
• Use hands and fingers for handling, operating, and preparing materials.
• Communicate effectively through speaking and hearing.
• Reach, push, pull, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs as needed.
• Perform repetitive motions and maintain awareness of surroundings.
• May be exposed to occasional participant behavioral challenges.

Lifting Requirements

• Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally.
• Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force frequently.
• Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force continuously.
