South Michigan Food Bank is seeking an experienced, dynamic, and mission-driven CEO to lead the organization into its next chapter. This is an opportunity to provide strategic vision, strengthen organizational impact, steward fiscal resources, and oversee day-to-day operations while advancing the critical mission of addressing food insecurity across our communities. Job responsibilities Administration and Board Liaison Proposes policies for the Board of Directors’ approval; administers approved policies. Develops operational work plans in conjunction with the strategic plan of the Board; regularly reports to the Board on program results and utilization of resources. Assists and meets with the Board of Directors at all regularly scheduled meetings, special meetings, and committee meetings as needed. Oversees all technical support systems, including inventory management systems, logistics, donor database, financial management system, website, and all other information technology and systems. People Leadership Responsibilities Supervises multiple department directors who manage over 20 employees. Organizes and administers an effective and efficient staff organization in order to effectively deliver services. Performs all personnel management functions, either directly or through delegation, and oversees all employees and activities of SMFB according to the established procedures or policies of the Board consistent with all applicable laws and regulations. Administers personnel policies and salary schedules as established by the Board. Ensures all positions have formal written job descriptions. Assures appropriate direction, supervision, and recognition of volunteers. Financial Management Prepares and seeks Board approval for the organization’s annual operating and capital budget, administers and manages SMFB within the parameters of the budget. Provides the Board with reliable and timely information on the fiscal condition of SMFB. Ensures all financial records of SMFB are in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles(GAAP). Ensures sufficient internal controls are in place and enforced. Operations and Food Supply Continually evaluates the effectiveness and efficiency of all SMFB programs and recommend/effect change and/or improvements as appropriate. Ensures all current health and safety standards are met. Ensures proper inspection, handling, storage, distribution, and accounting for all products in accordance with Feeding America (national)requirements/contracts and all applicable laws and regulations. Responsible for all property and assets assigned to or in custody of SMFB. Authorizes the purchase, installation, maintenance, and operation of all SMFB equipment and facilities with board parameters. Ensures sufficient food is solicited (donated) and/or efficiently purchased in order to fulfill the requirements of the various SMFB programs. Establishes and maintains to standard a 501c3 non-profit network of emergency feeding programs to ensure a balancing of adequate food resources throughout the SMFB service area in accordance withBoard and Feeding America standards. Fundraising Seeks to expand and develop new funding sources to achieve strategic plan objectives. Increases/improves the name recognition of the SMFB brand and mission throughout the entire service area through intensive public relations efforts. Positions SMFB as the principal agency throughout south central Michigan to address the hunger cause to the media and others as well as representing SMFB to federal, state and local government, as applicable. Provides special emphasis toward assisting the Director of Fund Development in expandinggrant/foundation funding for SMFB programs. Relationships Serves as the official liaison with Feeding America (national) and the Food Bank Council of Michigan. Builds and maintains a strong network of relationships within south central Michigan to advance support for SMFB. Embraces and demonstrates the ability to bring together a diverse cultural community on all levels (staff, volunteers, donors, community members). Qualifications Positive attitude, strong work ethic and compassion for those in need. Master’s degree or equivalent experience in food banking, food industry, or non-profit management Organizational financial management experience Excellent writing, communication, management, and leadership skills required Successful development/fundraising background Non-profit marketing/PR background a plus Experience/knowledge in supply chain management, warehousing, and distribution a plus Ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) Founded in 1982, South Michigan Food Bank (SMFB) works to enrich lives in our community by eliminating food insecurity and advancing our vision of a hunger-free South Michigan.
