Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Rotating; Primarily Day Shift, may rotate to Weekends and Night Shift Hours per Shift: 8, 10, 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS Must-Have: Prior PACU experience, level 1 trauma PACU preferred Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse in the PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit). The unit has a total of 20 pre-op bays and 24 PACU/Phase II bays. Nurses rotate through Pre-op, PACU, Phase II, and boarders. The nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:3 in pre-op, 1:2 in PACU, and 1:3 in Phase II. The unit handles common cases involving adult and pediatric patients, including general surgery, plastics, dental, ENT, maxillofacial, urology, neurosurgery, surgical oncology, ophthalmology, orthopedic, joint replacements, OB/GYN, thoracic, and bariatrics. Experience with EMR systems, specifically EPIC, is required. Charge nurses do not typically take assignments but can do so when necessary. Patient care aides are available on the unit. Nurses will provide care to ICU patients in the PACU unless a ready ICU bed is available. RNs will read cardiac strips. Shifts typically start at various times, with pre-op shifts beginning at 0530 and PACU shifts starting at several intervals from 0730 to 1000. Call requirements vary per schedule, typically around 20-24 hours per month. Each employee selects their own call shifts based on availability. Employees may be required to work one holiday shift and one holiday call shift per season. Call response time is one hour. Nurses may float to other pre/post departments within the facility. The dress code is hospital scrubs. The orientation process includes one day each in Pre-op, PACU, and Phase II.
