The Housing Support Staff work closely with the residents of Haven Heights to provide a clean and secure living environment, access to basic needs, and crisis intervention. Their responsibilities include conducting periodic safety inspections, responding to emergency situations, and maintaining detailed records and documentation. This position works in close coordination with Haven Height’s leadership and client services team and receives direct supervision from the Housing Supervisor.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

Provide assistance, support, and information to residents to ensure a safe environment that is compliant with all rules and policies. Provide supportive care to residents experiencing personal crises. Conduct periodic walking inspections of the facility for the purpose of identifying, initiating appropriate action (reporting, correction, etc.) of hazards, inappropriate behavior, necessary repairs, or other notable conditions. Respond to emergency situations that may arise, making decisions within policy guidelines as necessary. Provide crisis intervention and institute security procedures should a critical or threatening situation arise, including providing timely and appropriate notification to policy, fire, emergency medical, and supervisory authorities. Demonstrate a working knowledge of emergency resources and service organizations. Collaborate with maintenance staff to uphold the facility’s cleanliness, safety, and maintenance standards. Ensure the facility’s regular practice of public health safety protocols. Maintain case records, required forms and reports, and social services systems (e.g. WellSky, HMIS, Bridges & Others) in the prescribed format. Participate in staff meetings. Work cooperatively with other The Salvation Army staff and programs. Perform other duties as requested.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE :

High school diploma or GED. 6 months of experience in public contact/customer service. Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness in a shelter/residential program preferred.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES :

Strong use of the English language in verbal and written communication. Ability to read, write, and speak English to the extent necessary to understand instructions, take messages, read a map, and use the telephone. Basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication & percentages). Intermediate level computer skills, including a strong proficiency in internet and email, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases. Proficient typing skills (60 words-per-minute). Demonstrated ability to work well independently and as part of a team environment. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks under stressful conditions. Ability to exercise mature and sound judgement in problem-solving and decision-making. Ability to present material effectively in written and oral form. Strong analytical and research skills. Understanding of basic conflict resolution. Ability to engage with diverse populations in a respectful and culturally responsive manner. Proficiency of the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) and WellSky database system. Ability to respect and maintain the confidentiality of agency and client information in compliance with applicable law and The Salvation Army policies and procedures. Broad and up-to-date knowledge of community-based resources (e.g. housing, RRH funds, employment placement services, access to medical & dental services, etc.). Willingness to comply with safety standards and procedures for both personal and public safety. Ability to communicate professionally with internal and external customers. Understanding and application of cultural competence principles. Knowledge of hard copy and digital records management. Ability to pass a “Protecting the Mission” background check, as required by The Salvation Army Standards. Ability to successfully pass the reference check process. Willingness and ability to represent The Salvation Army and Seattle Social Services in a loyal, productive manner in liaison with Northwest Divisional Headquarters (NW DHQ), local The Salvation Army corps, community members, contracting agencies, as well as Seattle city and King County offices and officials. Ability to complete CPR, First Aid, & Bloodborne Pathogen training and certification within 90 days of employment. Flexibility to work overtime on occasion.

SOFTWARE-RELATED SKILLS :

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, & PowerPoint. Proficiency in database management software, including Bitfocus, HMIS, and WellSky. Ability to use a copier/scanner/fax machine as required. Demonstrated expertise in web resources and navigation. Ability to use new software programs with basic training.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects, such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead. Ability to rapidly travel over uneven surfaces, up and down steps, up and down ramps, and to climb stepladders as necessary. Ability to operate a telephone. Ability to operate a desktop and laptop computer. Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods. Ability to access and produce information from a computer. Ability to interpret and understand written communication. Ability to lift up to 45lbs.
