Position Summary
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the classroom teacher with implementing daily lesson plans and learning activities.
- Support students individually and in small groups to reinforce academic and developmental skills.
- Supervise children during classroom activities, recess, meals, restroom breaks, and transitions.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, safe, and engaging classroom environment.
- Encourage positive behavior and model appropriate social and emotional skills.
- Assist with preparing instructional materials, learning centers, and classroom displays.
- Observe student progress and communicate observations to the classroom teacher.
- Assist with assessments, recordkeeping, and documentation as directed.
- Support students with personal care needs, including toileting, handwashing, and mealtime routines, as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
- Communicate professionally and positively with families, staff, and administrators.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and required training.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher or administrator.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate degree or paraprofessional certification preferred (or as required by state/local regulations).
- Experience working with preschool or early childhood-aged children preferred.
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
- Ability to pass required background checks.
- Understanding of child development and early childhood education practices.
- Ability to build positive relationships with young children.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, flexibility, and a caring attitude.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Basic computer and organizational skills.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and sitting on the floor.
- Ability to actively supervise young children indoors and outdoors.
- Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.
