Area Loss Prevention Manager (ALPM) Responsible for protecting the assets of Ross Stores, Inc. while achieving shortage and safety goals for assigned stores, districts, and areas. This role manages, promotes, and directs all Loss Prevention initiatives and programs, develops strong partnerships at store, district, and zone levels, and implements company‑driven loss prevention solutions. The ALPM shares supervisory responsibility for store‑based Loss Prevention associates (Store Protection Specialists or SPS) and is involved in hiring, training, development, and performance management of this team. Base Salary Range: $81,000 – $121,800. Salary is dependent on experience, skills, qualifications, education, certifications, seniority, and location. The range is one component of the total compensation package. Essential Functions Minimizing Operational Shortage Achieve shortage reduction goals for assigned stores, districts, and areas. Understand and respond to shortage processes (e.g., CNS, MOS, Front‑End Operations, MPT). Identify shortage risks through regular review of indicator reports; partner with stores to develop action plans. Ensure all Loss Prevention shortage audits are conducted consistently and objectively. Coach, train, and influence store leadership and associates on best practice execution. Promote shortage awareness through store programs (e.g., Shortage Highway) and ensure Loss Prevention Awareness Center is visible. Support assigned stores during inventory processes. Strictly adhere to all budget guidelines. Mitigating Theft & Fraud Aggressively identify, investigate, and resolve all internal and external theft and fraud. Maximize utilization of all available merchandise protection tools and resources. Ensure consistent execution of all deterrence resources/tools. Leverage exception and store reporting systems to identify theft activity. Drive resolution and case closure on all investigations, including follow‑up with corporate Investigative Analyst team and external partners. Maintain confidentiality during investigations and partner with store leadership and Human Resources on corrective actions. Drive an impactful SPS program by hiring, training, and developing SPS associates. Maintain accurate records and reports of theft activity; disseminate as necessary. Drive store‑level awareness of theft and fraud techniques and prevention tools. Share expertise on physical security and loss prevention systems for new store openings, remodels, and expansions. Maintaining a Safe & Secure Environment Drive achievement of accident reduction goals for General Liability and Workers Compensation. Conduct regular Loss Prevention safety audits for compliance of standards and programs. Promote a safety‑first culture with store audits, safety incentive awards, and safety celebrations. Participate in store and district conference calls to raise awareness of safety initiatives and emergency/crisis response procedures. Execute effective crisis management and incident response; coach and train store leadership on accident investigation findings. Provide physical security expertise and ensure proper functionality of store‑based security technologies. Regularly evaluate building integrity and partner with store management to address equipment failures. Developing Great Teams & Partnerships Train store leadership and associates, and Operations and Human Resources partners, on current Loss Prevention initiatives. Assist store leadership in promoting awareness campaigns on shortage and safety control measures. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with corporate Loss Prevention partners and field‑based peers. Foster internal partnerships to drive integrated solutions for shortage control and accident reduction. Drive a performance management culture by identifying improvement opportunities in individual, team, and store performance. Participate in recruitment and hiring of top talent for store‑based Loss Prevention positions in partnership with store management. Promote effective internal communication through regular SPS conference calls and participation in store rally meetings. Establish and leverage communication with external partners, including law enforcement and retail theft organizations. Assist in development and updating of training materials and concepts for awareness training sessions. Perform other responsibilities and projects as assigned. Experience driving successful loss prevention, shortage control, accident reduction, and fraud prevention programs. Self‑motivated individual who can thrive in a fast‑paced environment with minimal supervision. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong presentation skills. Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities. Excellent analytical skills and problem‑solving ability. Proven ability to make sound decisions under pressure. Excellent organizational skills, detail‑oriented. Maintains confidentiality concerning all information and projects. Values and exhibits the highest level of personal integrity. Proficiency in computer software, including MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Knowledge of Loss Prevention technologies (e.g., CCTV systems, exception reporting systems) is advantageous. Physical Requirements / ADA Ability to work in an office environment, primarily on a computer. Requires sitting, standing, walking, hearing, talking on the telephone, attending in‑person meetings, typing, and working with paper/files. Consistent timeliness and regular attendance. Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically. Must be able to travel. Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time (up to 8 hours per day). Frequent computer work required (up to 8 hours), involving repetitive arm/hand motions from keyboarding. Requires regular in‑office presence, including in‑person team interaction, meetings and collaboration, client support, mentoring, coaching, and/or feedback; hybrid options may be available. Supervisory Responsibilities Shared supervisory responsibility for up to 75 store‑based Loss Prevention associates (Store Protection Specialists or SPS) within assigned stores, districts, and areas.
