The successful candidate will work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary project teams focused on transportation infrastructure and related civil-geotechnical projects. This role involves technical design, analysis, and field work for projects that include slope stabilization, foundations, and earth retention systems. The ideal candidate will have solid field experience, including geotechnical drilling and construction observation, and will be eligible for professional registration within 1 year of hire.This position is located in Anchorage, AK. Regular travel to other BGC offices and project locations will be required.ResponsibilitiesConduct geotechnical investigations, analyses, and design for geotechnical-related projects, including slope stabilization, earthworks, foundations, and earth retention systemsPrepare technical reports and contribute to proposal developmentComplete field logs of boreholes in both soil and rock during subsurface investigationsPerform field inspections and site visits during construction phasesInterpret in-situ and laboratory test results and instrumentation dataCollaborate with senior engineers and project managers to ensure quality and technical excellenceSupport project delivery, including budgeting, scheduling, and coordination with internal teams and clientsProvide guidance and mentorship to junior staff as appropriateRequired Education, Experience & CompetenciesBachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering5–8 years of relevant industry experience, or 3–6 years with a master's degreeExisting Professional Engineer (PE) designation or eligible for registration as a PE in the USA within 1 year of hireExperience with field investigation techniques such as soil visual-manual descriptions, rock core logging, SPT sampling, CPT soundings, test pits, and geophysical surveysSolid understanding of soil mechanics and geotechnical design principles, including limit equilibrium analysis, ASD and LRFD foundation analysis, and lateral earth pressure and earth retentionFamiliarity with cold regions engineering principles (frost heave, permafrost, thermal design)Familiarity with geotechnical software such as SLOPE/W, Slide2, RSPile, LPile, PLAXIS, TEMP/W, FLAC, or similarStrong written and verbal communication skillsDesired Education, Experience & CompetenciesMaster's degree in Civil or Geotechnical EngineeringExisting Canadian Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) Registration or eligible for registration for a P.Eng. within 5 yearsExperience with deep and shallow foundation design (spread footings, driven piles, drilled shafts, micropiles)Experience with rock anchor, bolt or dowel designExposure to earth retention systems (lateral earth pressure diagrams; design of shoring, soil nail walls, tieback walls, MSE walls)Prior experience in consulting engineering or constructionPosition RequirementsDrug & Alcohol TestingTo ensure we meet our client's compliance requirements and our workplace health and safety commitments, BGC has a drug and alcohol policy that applies to this position.
