UCT is looking for a talented  Director, Engineering to join us in  Phoenix, AZ!

The Director of Engineering role is responsible for managing ongoing Services corporate engineering worldwide.  Responsible for R&D, capital build outs, new process introduction, program management, engineering cost estimation, statistical methods, semiconductor process equipment design and manufacturing, semiconductor process design, parts cleaning and coating. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Lead the program management of various New Process Introduction (NPI) projects critical to business growth, including new tools, fixtures, and installation support.
• Implement and refine process control standards and enhance global engineering training and methodologies.
• Manage Engineering personnel, prioritize tasks, and schedule projects for Design and Equipment Engineering teams. Ensure timely task completion and workload balancing across regions.
• Enhance project management capabilities within engineering, overseeing stage gate processes from R&D to High Volume Manufacturing (HVM) or Technology Transfer to HVM.
• Manage customer expectations, prioritize projects involving Design, Equipment, Process, and R&D Engineering resources.
• Recommend and oversee new facilities, equipment, or modifications to improve safety, capacity, effectiveness, and operating costs. Lead design aspects and ensure effective implementation and installation.
• Direct engineering activities to ensure timely introduction of new products, shop floor control systems, capital projects, and facility construction. Maintain project Gantt charts and milestone plans.
• Schedule and monitor engineering projects and quotations to ensure on-time completion.
• Manage personnel focused on product improvement to reduce material costs and manufacturing labor content.
• Coordinate with Operations Leaders and/or VP of Engineering for necessary capital expenditures.
• Ensure all equipment and manufacturing operations meet required safety standards.
• Conduct performance appraisals and support employee development in accordance with company policies.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Engineering management experience with groups of at least 10 people.
• Knowledge of semiconductor equipment and parts design and manufacturing.
• Knowledge of metal finishing technology.
• Knowledge of semiconductor parts management and cleaning.
• Familiarity with semiconductor fab operations.
• Program and project management.
• Engineering cost estimation.
• Quality disciplines.
• Statistical methods: Design of Experiments, Process Control.
• Shop Floor control systems.

Educational/Certification Requirement :

• Minimum bachelor's degree in chemical or mechanical engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgy, Chemistry or Physics.
• Master’s degree or higher, or equivalent post-graduate education in above subjects preferred.

Work Experience Requirements:

• 10+ years directly related leadership experience in semiconductor equipment, process or parts.
• Will consider equivalent experience in metal finishing or treating industries.

Work Environment :

This job is usually performed in a professional office environment, routinely using standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and other related equipment. The employee will also be expected to be present in the manufacturing areas as required.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and manufacturing areas can occasionally be moderate or loud.

Physical Demands :

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to sit; climb stairs, maintain balance; employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust optical focus.

Travel Requirements :

• Domestic and international travel away from primary work location will be required.
