Overview United States Attorney's Office, Southern District of Texas — Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) in the Criminal Division, Laredo, TX. The position prosecutes a variety of federal violations and enforces federal laws related to organized crime, financial litigation, immigration, drugs, firearms, public corruption, asset forfeiture, and white-collar crime. The office offers a fast-paced, challenging, and varied caseload with opportunities for courtroom experience. The Selected candidate will serve in the Laredo, TX office and will be part of a dedicated team within the Criminal Division. Responsibilities Prosecute a variety of federal violations and enforce federal laws related to organized crime, financial litigation, immigration, drugs, firearms, public corruption, asset forfeiture, and white-collar crime. Grow responsibilities and handle increasingly complex assignments as training and experience progress. Collaborate with other AUSAs, support staff, and investigative agencies to uphold the Department of Justice mission and ensure the impartial administration of justice. Represent the United States in court as required, with frequent courtroom appearances. Note: Additional positions may be filled using this announcement. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Juris Doctor degree (or equivalent) and active bar admission in any U.S. jurisdiction by the entry on duty date. Law school graduates and current law students taking a July 2026 bar examination may be considered, subject to the foregoing requirements. United States citizenship is required. Preferred Qualifications: Strong academic credentials, superior legal research and writing skills, quick analytical ability, high-volume courtroom experience, excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, and ability to work in a professional team environment. Courtroom experience, including first-chair jury trials, is preferred. Computer proficiency and ability to perform legal research and drafting independently are desirable. Residency and other requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district or within 25 miles thereof. The position is located in the Laredo, TX office. Salary and Benefits: The pay range for this position, including locality, is $79,718.00 to $197,100.00.
