Physical Therapist I

Physical Therapist 1 – Open to New Grads! Job Type : Full-time, Outpatient Schedule : Rotating Monday‑Friday. 3 days at Sports Center in Bel Air (flexible 7:00 am – 6:45 pm), 2 days a week at Aberdeen Rehab Center (8:00 am – 4:30 pm). Responsibilities Provides direct physical therapy services to patients in accordance with generally accepted physical therapy standards, State of Maryland Physical Therapy Practice Act, code of ethics, and departmental procedures. Performs comprehensive evaluations to identify problems that require physical therapy; selects appropriate tests and measurements. Sets priorities and establishes treatment goals directed toward objective, functional, and measurable problems; plans and selects the most appropriate treatment modality. Adjusts goals and modifies treatment when they are not adequately attained; determines when goals have been reached. Maintains patient privacy; teaches patients and families home care and exercise skills; provides emergency care, including CPR, when necessary. Requests assistance of Physical Therapy Assistants, Therapy Aides, or volunteers as appropriate. Records evaluations, re‑evaluations, and care provided in the medical record according to departmental documentation standards; prepares written documentation such as evaluation results, treatment plans, progress reports, and discharge summaries. Records patient charges and procedures performed daily. Participates in quality assurance activities; suggests areas for improvement and alternative treatment techniques. Assumes responsibility to resolve or report clinical and operational issues to department leadership. Attends and participates in clinical patient rounds and conferences as part of the interdisciplinary team; communicates observations, facts, and comments. Attends physical therapy in‑service training programs; suggests in‑service topics and speakers; presents information on continuing education courses. Oversees and directs the work of therapy aides, volunteers, and students as directed by department leadership. Qualifications Current licensure as a Physical Therapist with the State of Maryland is required. Current CPR certification is required. New graduates are welcome to apply. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of physical therapy techniques and practices; general knowledge of orthopedics, neurology, trauma, pathology, and general medicine. In the UMMC Rehabilitation department, knowledge of equipment such as wheelchairs, transfer devices, lift equipment, modalities, and other therapeutic equipment. Effective verbal and written communication skills to work with patients and health‑care personnel. Ability to read, write, and speak English to follow and give instructions accurately. Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population served on the assigned unit. Ability to learn and practice positive guest‑relations skills. Ability to assess data reflective of patient requirements relative to their population‑specific and age‑specific needs.
