Livestock Market Inspector- Billings

About the Position The Department of Livestock is recruiting Market Inspectors for the Billings Livestock Commission and Public Auction Yards to serve the livestock industry. Responsibilities Inspect livestock at markets to document brands and other identifying characteristics using a handheld computer device. Collect and review paperwork from livestock owners to ensure ownership is clear and correct. Issue inspections and permits for animals moving or changing ownership near the market. Provide clear instruction and clarification to producers regarding Montana livestock regulations. Qualifications High school graduation equivalent or experience in cattle‑handling. Extensive experience handling, roping, and clipping cattle with safe work habits. Ability to handle livestock and move quickly, including clipping fences, climbing, etc. Skill operating a personal computer and handheld electronic devices. Motor vehicle operation and a valid Montana driver’s license. Background check and acceptable driving record.
