Patient Access Supervisor - Behavioral Health

Overview:This position supports BH Patient access and scheduling for two programs and supports one of the departments in an Operations capacity.Job Description Summary:Ensures registration is occurring accurately and in a timely manner. Coordinates activities and communicates with various departments who are affected by registration information. Initiates appropriate steps to resolve departmental, interdepartmental, and payer issues that affect registration processes.Job Description:Essential Functions:Supervises staff assigned to the work unit. Works with the manager in the hiring, terminating, and counseling of staff.Evaluates the performance of assigned staff and completes the Performance Appraisal form. Documents and provides timely feedback regarding concerns received about staff’s behavior or job performance.Implements and enforces the department’s policies and procedures. Guides the department to meet the set goals and standards. Schedules and conducts monthly team meetings.Ensures time and attendance is completed for department each pay period. Ensures appropriate staffing needs are maintained in all areas of the department.Deals directly with patients, parents, third parties, vendors, management, and all levels of hospital staff. Acts as a liaison between department and other hospital departments in billing needs and requirements.Stays abreast of, and educates staff on, governmental regulations, contract requirements, and anticipated future needs. Ensures that all unit staff remains compliant with government regulations.Strives to find solutions to hospital and department-wide operational issues affecting accounts receivable or customer service.Education Requirement:Bachelor’s Degree in business administration or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.Licensure Requirement:Valid Ohio driver’s license and proof of auto insurance as required by hospital policy and position-specific requirements. Must pass motor vehicle background inspection, insurance eligibility, driving qualifications, and training set forth by Nationwide Children’s Hospital and maintain qualification of insurance guidelines.Skills:Ability to effectively initiate and manage multi-disciplined projects.Knowledge of medical terminology, various claim forms, third party contracts and payment patterns, and reimbursement regulations and policies of third-party payers.Detailed understanding of a managed care environment and its impact on the hospital’s bottom line.Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multi-disciplined projects and multiple people.Excellent communication and customer service skills.Working knowledge of mainframe admitting and billing computer systems (EPIC preferred) and experience using Outlook, Word and Excel.Demonstrated traits of teamwork, cooperation, and positive and enthusiastic role model.Experience:Three years of experience in a leadership or management position, required.Experience in a healthcare environment, preferred.Physical Requirements:OCCASIONALLY: Blood and/or Bodily Fluids, Climb stairs/ladder, Driving motor vehicles (work required) *additional testing may be required, Lifting / Carrying: 41-60 lbs, Loud Noises, Pushing / Pulling: 26-40 lbs, Pushing / Pulling: 41-60 lbs, Squat/kneelFREQUENTLY: Bend/twistCONTINUOUSLY: Audible speech, Chemicals/Medications, Communicable Diseases and/or Pathogens, Computer skills, Decision Making, Flexing/extending of neck, Hand use: grasping, gripping, turning, Hearing acuity, Interpreting Data, Lifting / Carrying: 0-10 lbs, Lifting / Carrying: 11-20 lbs, Lifting / Carrying: 21-40 lbs, Peripheral vision, Problem solving, Pushing / Pulling: 0-25 lbs, Reaching above shoulder, Repetitive hand/arm use, Seeing – Far/near, Sitting, Standing, WalkingAdditional Physical Requirements performed but not listed above:Ability to multi-task within a stressful environment"The above list of duties is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by individuals assigned to this classification.
