We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Part‑Time Student Lab Assistant to join our team in supporting college chemistry teaching labs. As a lab assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of laboratory sessions by setting up equipment and chemicals, maintaining a safe environment, managing inventory, and assisting with various projects to enhance student learning and safety. Responsibilities and Duties Include Sets up laboratory equipment and materials prior to each lab session, ensuring everything is in proper working order. Prepares chemical solutions according to established procedures and safety guidelines. Serves as a safety ambassador by encouraging safety protocols and procedures during lab sessions. Maintains accurate records of inventory using a computerized tracking system, including ordering and stocking supplies as needed. Collaborates with lab staff and faculty to develop and implement safety improvements and educational enhancements for the labs. Performs routine inspection, maintenance, and calibration of laboratory equipment to ensure functionality and safety. Cleans and organizes lab spaces before and after each session, adhering to safety standards. Assists with special projects and research initiatives within the lab as assigned. Provides service of excellence through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement. Performs other duties as assigned. Reports to: Academic Lab Manager, Chemistry Qualifications Required : The educational aide must be a currently enrolled Santa Fe College student pursuing a STEM degree, in good academic standing, and taking six (6) or more credit hours. Additional Requirements : A criminal background check will be conducted. Preferred : Having taken additional laboratory or chemistry coursework. General Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to work successfully in a multi‑cultural environment. Adaptability to change – able to be flexible and supportive, able to positively and proactively assimilate change in rapid growth environment. Communication – able to effectively communicate in a professional, diplomatic, empathetic, and tactful manner using preferred method and level as applicable to the job. Customer Service – ability to respond promptly and courteously to all questions from students and faculty, demonstrating patience and persistence when helping students with little or no computer skills. Ethics – able to demonstrate integrity, professionalism, civility, and a high degree of ethics in all job‑related actions. Organization & Time Management – able to plan, schedule, and organize tasks related to the job to achieve goals within or ahead of established time frames. Problem Solving – proven skills in identifying issues, determining their cause, developing creative solutions, and following through with implementing resolutions. Detail Oriented – Proven accuracy and attention to detail. Systems & Software – proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or relevant position software programs.
