Phlebotomist Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM Location: 27343 Wesley Chapel Blvd, Wesley Chapel, FL Position Summary This position is expected to function independently or with minimal supervision in all laboratory areas and duties, including but not limited to performing phlebotomy, specimen processing, and clerical duties, all of which are performed in a timely and efficient manner. Essential Functions Front Office Functions Performs start duties prior to opening the lab. Adds tests for add‑ons and handles recollects or properly charges STATs to HMO’s. Copies of insurance cards. Uses proper stamps on orders such as FROZEN, LabCorp, Quest. Prints daily logs. Petty cash management. Faxes reports from the previous day. Handles drug screen collections. Quotes lab prices. Shows deposits. Prints labels for requisitions and specimens. Obtains ABN forms for Medicare patients. Manages orders from Intergy or patients. Uses valid diagnosis codes. Properly identifies patients. Collects payments from patients and issues receipts. Challenges ambiguous orders and handles them according to protocol, including taking verbal orders. Verifies patient insurance information. Provides services for patients and doctors’ offices such as lab results. Directs incoming faxes to correct personnel. Answers the phone and assists callers, properly transfers calls. Calls or faxes any panic or stat results to appropriate providers per written protocol. Ensures quantity and timeliness of work that produces optimal productivity. Performs tasks with minimal errors. Understands and knows how to perform assigned tasks. Master new work routines in this area. Demonstrates degree and willingness to perform these tasks. Phlebotomy Verifies orders and requisitions match, checking all tests. Ensures ABN is properly filled out and signed. Labels specimens properly. Provides required information on requisitions, including date, time, initials, number, and type of tubes drawn. Draws 6 patients an hour (35‑40 patients per day). Uses butterfly needle only when assistance is asked for. Keeps requisitions filed in a folder and assists with preparing folders for scanning. Provides phlebotomy services to doctors’ offices when needed, such as special procedures and family practice. Back Office Prepares reports for distribution. Loads specimens passed through. Supplies missing billing information such as diagnosis to remote labs. Works on internal billing charges, no more than 3 days behind. Keeps daily requisitions filed correctly and neatly. Retrieves outstanding tests report for LabCorp and Quest. Handles error logs for LabCorp and Quest. Retrieves results and transmits requisitions when needed. Directs incoming mail to correct personnel. Performs mail‑outs daily, obtaining correct addresses for outside providers. Processing Specimens Properly spins down specimens when needed, checking for fibrinogen and clots. Pours off any specimens needed for special transport tubes. Prepares specimens for transportation with couriers. Distributes and handles STATs according to protocol. Performs “Clean‑outs” in Flex‑e Suite. Inventory Maintains accurate inventory of supplies. Distributes supplies to remote labs, such as in‑house tubes/patients with instructions. Keeps supply area neat and clutter‑free. Maintains punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards. Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures. Performs all other duties as assigned. Computer Utilization Looks up results and prints them in Intergy, Flex‑e Suite, LCM; knows how to print patient demographic sheets and insurance cards. Loads insurances into Intergy and sets proper coverage. Creates requisitions in Clinicians for LabCorp, Quest, LIS. Retrieves and transmits results. Prints billing reports or work lists for STAT, mail, and fax logs. Performs “Clean‑outs” in Flex‑e Suite. Registers a new patient in Intergy or modifies existing information. Loads drug studies properly. Other Related Functions Maintains an organized and clean work area. Places phones on and off service at the appropriate times. Participates in maintenance of office supplies. Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned. Travels to different FMC locations as needed. Maintains punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards. Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures. Performs all other duties as assigned. Education / Training High school graduate of equivalent required. Licensure / Certification Phlebotomist certification. Experience Minimum of 1 year phlebotomy experience. Strong customer service orientation. Excellent telephone etiquette.
