Job Details Job Title: Head Gravity Bike Coach/Technician Department: Athletics Reports to: Dean of Athletics FLSA Status: Salary – Exempt Salary Range: $35,000–$50,000 per year (commensurate with experience) Academy Status: Full Time/10 month plus 3 summer camps Location: Bethel, ME 04217 Job Summary The Head Gravity Bike Coach/Technician is responsible for overseeing the Competition Gravity program, including practice, training, competition, and student‑athlete recruitment. The position works in conjunction with the Assistant Gravity Coach to plan all on‑course and off‑bike sessions, coordinate with the Varsity Mountain Biking Director for trail usage, and manage logistics such as transportation, lodging, and bike tuning. Prepares training venue and maintains equipment. Manages athlete transportation for daily training and events. Assists athletes with gear selection and maintenance. Coaches three Gould summer bike camps. Communicates with athletes, parents, and faculty. Participates in professional development clinics and training. Completes additional winter coaching duties as assigned. Technician Examines bicycles and identifies parts that require repair, replacement, or modification. Installs, repairs, and replaces equipment and accessories. Adjusts components according to rider specifications. Aligns wheels and maintains wheel alignment. Builds or assembles new bicycles. Travel Protocol / Camps / Overnight Trips Provides 24‑hour supervisory duties, including downtime, warm‑up, cool‑down training, supervised study hall, equipment maintenance, and promotion of nutritional and sleep health. Drives vans pulling trailers. Manage Submits daily attendance on Blackbaud. Manages athlete equipment. Plans and executes away competitions, including travel, lodging, and supervision. Submits accurate trip ITs and trip reconstructions in a timely fashion. Plans athlete travel for in‑season competition and training opportunities. Maintains program equipment (tools, trailers, video, etc.). Records ongoing athlete comments, term‑ending athlete comments, and parent communications in Blackbaud. Recruit Develops the recruiting process for Gravity riders and families, including visit structure, identification of families, and management of inquiries. Professionalism Attends team and organization meetings. Communicates promptly and frequently with athletes, parents, and faculty. Meets general daily professional standards regarding attendance, timeliness, and deadlines. Adheres to policies in the Employee Handbook and Community Guide. Community Life Assists in supervising students on school nights and weekends during periods not in the fall or spring competitive racing season. Supports the Four Point Program. Participates in a weekend duty team. Engages in community activities. Seeks to reduce scheduling conflicts. Other Duties Additional coaching assignment in the winter as assigned. Follows any additional instructions and performs any duties requested by supervisors or the Head of School. Qualifications High school diploma required; undergraduate degree or above preferred. Athletic competition or coaching experience preferred. Ability to fix and maintain bike components, including suspension tuning. Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather and cold temperatures. CPR, First Aid, and Safe Sport Certified (or willingness to be trained). Basic software literacy in Google Suite. Valid passport and U.S. driver’s license. Passes a criminal and sexual offender background check and driving records check. Obtains a CHRC from the Maine Department of Education. Physical Work Environment Navigate and coach on difficult terrain. Ride a mountain bike on difficult terrain and in inclement weather conditions. Work occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Occasional lifting up to 10–50 pounds of supplies. Driving a motor vehicle as required.
