Head of Actuary

Senior Generalist Actuarial Leadership RoleExecutive P&C actuarial leadership role in San Francisco, with hybrid attendance of at least three days weekly. You will own pricing and reserving for a commercial insurance carrier, including rate filings, reserve estimates, actuarial infrastructure, and AI-enabled underwriting support. The role reports to the Head of Insurance and requires 10+ years of commercial P&C experience.RequirementsMust have:10+ years of actuarial experience in commercial P&C insuranceDirect experience in both pricing and reservingDemonstrated independent ownership of rate filings and reserve estimatesExperience with state insurance department rate filing requirements and processesStrongly preferred:Strong technical foundation in GLMs, loss development triangles, rate indication methodology, and reserve adequacy testingAbility to translate complex actuarial analysis into clear recommendations for executivesComfortable operating as a build-from-scratch or small-team actuarial functionFCAS or ACAS designation strongly preferredProficiency in R, Python, or similar tools for actuarial modeling and analysisNice to have:Experience in small commercial or BOP linesExperience integrating actuarial models into real-time underwriting or quoting systems (API-driven or AI agent environments)Experience with reinsurance treaty structuring and loss pick developmentDomain: Commercial P&C pricing, Commercial P&C reserving, State rate filing procedures, GLM-based pricing models, Small commercial or BOP lines
